A poi, ciao.

This goes to show that politicians corrupt everything they touch and regulation is created only to serve their interests, in this case under the guise of child sexual abuse.

#Privacy and #Encryption should be based on the #Cypherpunks principles of anonymity in #Permissionless systems where gatekeepers are powerless by design.

There is no way to #FixTheCRA, it should be bypassed by proper #FOSS software.

If the EU's CRA goes ahead as planned we might have to consider legal loopholes like distributing software as Vinyl records again (as was done in the 80s), where it can be argued the carried information is NOT software, but audio... (maybe also leading to an unexpected revival of noisecore):

@toxi @plexus This will affect lots of already funded projects that have been funded by @EC_NGI . Lots of projects have one developer only or a small group of developers working.

I'm sure @NGIZero would agree as they've funded lots of small projects on behalf of the EU.

@plexus Good point, I thought there was an "Act Now" button somewhere too... Just quoting from their email now:

Form your opinion

Open Source Foundations have provided several opinions on why the CRA is problematic. Here's a sample list:

- blog.opensource.org/the-ultima
- pyfound.blogspot.com/2023/04/t
- linuxfoundation.org/blog/linux
- eclipse-foundation.blog/2023/0
- fsfe.org/news/2023/news-202303

Voice your concerns

You can propose the aforementioned amendments emailing directly your MEPs (the Rapporteur for the CRA is Nicola Danti):

europarl.europa.eu/meps/en/hom
europarl.europa.eu/meps/en/124

...or to your national European Council representative, either individually or your company public affairs department, is the most impactful thing you can do now.

consilium.europa.eu/en/europea

Get your organization involved

If your organization is already engaging with legislators either in your country in the EU or in Brussels, or you would like to get your organization engaged, you can also reach out at info@linuxfoundation.eu and we can discuss further joint next steps.

Time is of the essence here, as the legislation is progressing quickly!

The current state of the EU's Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) will have devastating negative consequences for #OpenSource communities and esp. indy devs. Help us #FixTheCRA by making your voice heard (that also includes anyone outside the EU and anyone actively using/benefiting from OSS/FOSS/FLOSS software/services — do take action & make some noise in your own future self-interest!)

Sad that the linked page only proposes to tweet this, as I'm not going to do that, but I can at least toot it because it's hard to disagree with their point:

The EU Cyber Resiliency Act is apparently not getting any better. If passed in its current form, many open source projects -and the developers behind them- might be in trouble. It needs to be seriously improved, and taken from those who don't sufficiently understand open source software. #FixTheCRA and help #OSS

I think what caused a reaction from the open source community in Europe was the fact that the government enacted [the CRA] that affects them without consultation said @Omkhar in interview w/ @darkreading darkreading.com/edge/will-gove #FixtheCRA
