Are you ready for a #FlintFriday #publication? my comparative analysis of lithic technology across various early Upper Palaeolithic technocomplexes just got out and it's #OpenAccess on the Quartär (@Obermaier_Soc) website bit.ly/3T7xcFO

Two recent technofunctional studies shed light on the role of Middle Pleistocene small tools. Both articles show that, despite their small size, such artifacts were used in animal butchering and wood processing.

Interestingly, in both cases - at Schöningen (Germany) ca 300ka and Marathousa 1 (Greece) ca 450ka - these small artifacts occur in association with elephant (Paleoloxodon) remains, perhaps indicating an outsize role in the activities of archaic humans.
