This entire time, the Republican anti establishment movement seemed divided between whether they cared more about being hardcore conservative or making the process more transparent and accountable to voters. The "old guard" Dems need to stop aside this time. They do well in controlling the far left of their caucus but their insistence on playing nice with Republicans is a big problem sometimes.
This is something that needs to be put out there, period. The American voters need to know if Republicans support an indicated, admitted liar and confessed thief to serve in Congress.

As the Left in the US, or whatever exists of it, we need to build on our successes and learn from our losses. A #ForceTheVote moment may come for prospective Speaker Hakeem Jeffries in 2024, 2026, etc. Now is as good a time as any to start getting ready.

I’m deeply disappointed when folks infantilize or straw-man @briebriejoy@twitter.com’s defense of the #ForceTheVote idea. It seems to run directly contrary to the leftist notion of *solidarity*. It’s possible to disagree with the idea without burning so many bridges. We’re better than that.

#ForceTheVote 2020 was a direct action-adjacent idea: use political power to provoke the attention of mainstream media and the masses who overwhelmingly support progressive policy, and no, not just #MedicareForAll. It was to demonstrate how underrepresented we are in general.

#ForceTheVote, as some have rightly pointed out, is actually a modern take on an ancient strategy called “using leverage when you have it”. Opponents of this modern take usually center the #MedicareForAll vote, which was going to fail. But as with most movements, the idea grew.

Folks who poo-poo & dismiss the #ForceTheVote strategy are operating from the belief that its supporters don’t understand organizing & movement building. But they don’t present an alternate strategy either, other than elect more progressives, which is a 30+-year strategy at best.

My problem with the #ForceTheVote discourse on the left is that the disagreement appears to be over what it takes to create a fruitful movement today when we actually *don’t know*. My belief is that we should take an all-of-the-above approach and then focus on what gets traction.

Is there an agreed upon list of all the demands that the Republican holdouts were able to secure for their #SpeakerVote published somewhere? I guess the rules vote is Monday. Please stop the blame game and accept that #ForceTheVote would have been a good idea.
