Asort-of end of the year update.
I normally don't do reviews, but I've just finished the latest season of Foundation, and really
enjoyed it. It does have a few names and themes from the Asimov books, but the producers
have taken those and run with it. They've also spent a lot of money, and the visuals show
that. I'm going to be interested to see where they finish up.
Also, just started Pluribus. Three episodes in, and again, keen to see where that's going.
I've just spent weeks -feels longer- reading through proofs. Always the part of the
publishing process | can live without, but it's got to be done. First off was The Helium Sea,
which was the galley proof, that is the layout that's going to be printed. This is the last
chance to correct anything, so it has to be a thorough read, not a skip-through. Thankfully
Del Rey has done a good job as usual, so there were very few typos, and not one continuity
error -that | could find. But given the size of the manuscript it took a while. Never mind, |
thought, once it's done | can go back to writing. Then just before | finished, Angry Robot
sent me the copy edit for volume 2 of the Arkship trilogy, The Captain's Daughter; that's the
stage before the galley proof. It still needs a fairly intense read through. Again there were
few mistakes, but it took time.

They're now both finished and returned to their respective publisher. To recap, The Helium
Sea will be coming out on June 16th, and The Captain's daughter June 9th next year. (And
no, | don't know when the Exodus game is being released. Maybe they'll announce it at the
Game Awards tomorrow)

So now, finally, I'm back writing Heavy Light again. This is a novel in an entirely new
universe. Itis very SF, but more thriller than space opera -I'm sure marketing will have their
own opinion on that. Given that I'm having four books published in 2026, it should be
coming out in 2027.

So have yourselves a grand Christmas and New Year, and I'll be back here in January.

Thoroughly enjoying the latest season of Foundation, thoughtful space opera that takes place over centuries as all good Space Operas should.
Space is BIG, shows should express that. Ships take time to cross the vastness of Space, events can take centuries, maybe the characters will live that long too, why not?
I sit watching it with my wife and a screen open to my own little space opera, having been inspired to do it by the original book series

Cracking opening scene to the new season of Foundation, looking forward to the much telegraphed new baddie being played by that guy who did Euron Greyjoy who I thought was underused in those final season, the character was just shoehorned towards the end, felt it didn't give the actor justice.

One thing I like to do while watching Foundation is have a screen one my plucky underdog space civilisation surrounded by decaying empires and go to the TV "The Community wouldn't do that'

I don't like The Mule in the TV series. I think he's the most unlikable character since Negan in The Walking Dead. I almost always sympathize with the bad guys, playing Devil's Advocate, enjoying the sadism or empathizing with supervillans but The Mule and Negan are too cruel for me. They scare me and I hang out with literal psychopaths. I don't like people with no limits and no sense of respect.

Turns out I was pretty "meh" on the latest season of #StarTrekSNW but was extremely into the latest season of #foundationTV

Okay, I like the expansion of the conflict between the Galatic Empire and the Outer Reaches, with the Empire's excessive retaliation no doubt being a drive for their independence and thus the beginning of the breakup of the Empire.

Foundation is unjustly underrated and unwatched in my opinion. The books were always going to be difficult to film (particularly the first one), but they’ve done a pretty impressive job overall.

The upcoming Season 3 looks pretty epic…and hopefully will wrap the show as I’m not convinced Apple will renew it one more time unfortunately.

I think I'm enjoying "Foundation" so much because I can't predict the plot which is a rarity for me as an autistic person with a special interest in storytelling. Also, I just had to stop the 8th episode of season 2 and untangle the timeline in my head. 😅
