...yeah, I'm talking about #FoxyProxy, and I'm apparently not alone in wondering what in the everloving fuck the developer was thinking

So far only uBlock Origin and FoxyProxy have issues with the latest Pale Moon update. Both of them are forcing DNS prefetching to be disabled, which can be confusing to users expecting it to be flipped on by default. I certainly did get confused by uBlock flipping the pref by itself...

It seems to make sense for FoxyProxy to do that (though it would've been nice if there's a UI option to not flip the pref) since they say it bypasses the user's proxy settings (probably has to do with the SOCKS5 "proxy DNS" option not cooperating with the DNS prefetching code). But it makes zero sense for uBlock, where they claim it's to prevent the user's filters from being bypassed. It certainly makes sense for content prefetching and preloading where it could contact the remote server of the websites supposed to be blocked, but not for DNS prefetching where the only talking there is between the browser and the DNS server the user has set. It shouldn't treat both as the same.

Today is the day #Foxyproxy updated and just forgot its configuration and can't seem to be working again... what a nice thing to experience before the first coffee 😵

if you're using #FoxyProxy, you already know about new #release 8.2. and, maybe, you already know how to #recover your settings in case you hit the #bug in #Firefox sync system. just in case I repeat the #solution mentioned in corresponding issue comment here:

Go to the Options page
Open the Dev Tools (F12)
Go to the Console tab
Type the following and hit ENTER
browser.storage.sync.get().then(console.log)
If above has some data, then in the Console tab
Type the following and hit ENTER
browser.storage.sync.get().then(pref => {
 const data = JSON.stringify(pref, null, 2);
 const blob = new Blob([data], {type: 'application/json'});
 browser.downloads.download({
   url: URL.createObjectURL(blob),
   filename: 'FoxyProxy_sync.json',
   saveAs: true,
   conflictAction: 'uniquify'
 })
 .catch(() => {}); 
});
Go to Import Tab -> Import from older versions
Import FoxyProxy_sync.json file that you have saved
Click SAVE to save the data

P.S.: Firefox is very picky about what you paste in its console. so you have to type words “allow pasting” to be allowed using copied code there.
