@DerSchulze ich verstehe den Zusammenhang nicht? Es gibt weitaus mehr Gerätemodelle mit physischem SIM-Slot, also solche mit eSIM. Zudem ist eine physische SIM dezentral, autonom/autark, datensparsam und ohne cloud oder vendor-dependency. Also warum sollte die eSIM nun der enable für "jeden, der es will" sein? @c3gsm #GSM #eSIM

Talking about enshittification on a scale of country

In my region of the planet at least one GSM provider decided to drop the support for 2G networks, without warning this past Sunday.

So on the 30th of November of 2025 all 2G Networks were shut down permanently, no warning, no f**** given.

The repercussions are enormous. I have a number of GSM devices which are used to load SIM cards with BTG, which then need to be put in devices, that need to be put far far away.

Those devices cannot get BTG through the network!

Many grandma's and grandpas in the age group of my mother, only have 2G devices to communicate with the outside world apart from their POTS lines. They can't use the POTS lines much because most of their young contacts have moved to 4G Networks. They only dial to each other over the POTS Lines

Thousands and thousands of 2G devices were rendered obsolete without warning, no f**** given a very troublesome trend which seem to have seeped also in my region of the world.

I don't know yet how it is with the other provider. That SIM card is now in a mobile Wi-Fi router which of course is 4G.

The amount of devices that I need to replace is so large that I have to purchase a dozen, yes you've read that right, a dozen 4G Androids.

Eight of those devices will be used immediately, while the four others will be reserves.

Effectively the GSM protocol has been retired in my country at least from the perspective of that one 4G provider

I would not be surprised if the other provider has also done the same horrific act. Both providers were pushing new Android phones for the past couple of months, with 10 to 20% discount in prices.

One of the providers even gave free SIM cards away...
