3 days after her 21st Birthday Lilli is exploring high grass.

😸 Ihr Lieben, was macht Euer Personal wenn Euch kalt ist?
Frauchen legt immer so eine Gummi-Flasche mit warmen Wasser in meine Winterhöhle. Vergisst aber warmes Wasser nachzufüllen 🙀 und dann tun mir die Knochen wieder weh 😾 Am Fenster ist es auch kalt. Da liege ich gar nicht gerne im Winter ... und den Sessel mit warmen Flokati bekomme ich nur selten.

Ich hoffe Loki geht es bald besser. Katzen ist DAS ja so peinlich.

Ich habe 8 Monate gebraucht bis ich begriff, das es im Alter nicht einfach-mal-vorkommt. Weil ich nix gemacht hatte, bekam Lilli im September möglicherweise eine Nierenbecken Entzündung. Jetzt bekommt Lilli seit mehreren Wochen Entzündungshemmer. 😠 Parallel bekommt Sie TCVM. 🙂

I had to mark my territory right away - at the same spot as before (Oktober 2023) Then I spotted the (white) safe-resting-place. I made mistress sit down and shield me from the wind.

😺Good morning folks. THIS is a safe resting place. If you are #hiking with your human you need to watch out for it. They are scattered everywhere. Your human can rest the large body on it - AND there is always a snack hidden!! 😺

😸 Here you can see one of the huge funny moving 'cars' that go to #Spiekeroog Island. We took the Wattenexpress, a small boat. I had to sit on mistress lap again 😾

Our own car we had to leave in Neuharlinger Siel. There are no cars on the island 🙀 and I had to use the buggy all the time. 😺

Lilli is taking a good look at the green car ferry 'Spiekeroog IV' The ferry is used for transporting goods to the island. It has a shallow draft for use at a low water level in the fairway.
The WattenExpress is a small vessel for about 50 persons that takes about 20 minutes for the crossing. Enough time for Lilli to take a close look at the nearby humans.

😸 This is something extraordinary. It is solid sand. You can not dig holes into it. There are already convenient solid high and low spots. When you put your paws on the high spot you can pee into the low spots.

At the horizon a stripe of green dike - and wind turbines underneath a blue late-summer-day sky, with a few clouds.

The land behind the dike is almost at the same level as the sea level. So the water of rivers can only flow to the north sea at low tide. Than the pumping stations in the dike open. Right now the tide is coming in.

You will have to take her point of view. It is way down near the earth and it is a small being that knows, that there are dangers that can take their life.

But their curiosity will always win - if you give them enough time, space and protection.

And the protection includes being on you #cats side - and keeping her safe space nearby. That can be an open balcony door, an outdoor cardboard or in Lillis case a buggy.

You will have to learn a complete new body language.

If the #SeniorCat keeps being fearful at a spot it can be that there is something dangerous that you do not recognize as such. When a #cat declares a spot safe she will start walking around and marking her territory.

If she does not, she either has not watched enough - or you have to show her that the danger is not dangerous. (Show her that the rope is NOT a snake.)

You need to figure out how long they need in their safe space to relive their experience. Their pace is a lot slower than yours.

If you saw your cat loved sniffing at grass - and next time she does not. Why should she? She already sniffed it. Put her down at another plant that is emitting other scents. And the fear is overcome again by their curiosity.

This way the wold of the #SeniorCat gets slowly slowly bigger.

So how to encourage your cat?

Be patient if your #cat just sits and watches. Give her enough time between outside adventures to work herself through the experience in her safe space. That takes at least 4 - 5 days.

Keep in mind that an 18 year old cat is almost 90 human years old. My 86 year old friend loves to take a hike with me - but not every day.

You have to train the ability of the #SeniorCat to interact with the big outside.
