@nygl do you know how to create network install folders?
I did that for my #GlobalTalk software install HD image…but it’s all pre-7.5.

I've been playing with A/UX running in a VM. I'm quite liking it so far. I plan to move this to real hardware when I get a chance to, but thanks to my previous work the A/UX VM already sees all the #Globaltalk hosts. #retrocomputing #unix #mac
We just had a 10 minute power outage - I think the longest since we moved here 9 years ago.
Luckily the PowerBook that serves as my #GlobalTalk node is on my “critical networking equipment” UPS so there was no disruption in services 👍
OK I’ve scanned them all!
You can find the scans on #GlobalTalk in the Blackbird share in #BaroNet as PICT files
or, uh, if you're one of the few people not on GlobalTalk yet, you can find PNGs on the web here https://kalleboo.com/linked/cute_macs/
Moved #globaltalk infrastructure (airport + RPi running jrouter) to the cable holder under my desk. Still available when I need it but less clutter on my desk!
@billgoats
My AIR machine currently sees 28 #GlobalTalk zones according to TalkCrawler.
Hey #GlobalTalk nerds! I have my AIR machine back online with the fancy new connection, but it looks there's only 27 zones. Does that sound about right, or have I messed up my config somehow? #LiveLaughLocalTalk
This sounds a lot like @billgoats building out a new #globaltalk subnet.

Now for the most important - getting it on #GlobalTalk!!
I wanted to be able to control my AIR machine from my G4 but installing Timbuktu 4 breaks Apple Internet Router! (Removing the Extension fixed it at least)
Does anyone else have a solution that works on an 040? I’ve seen some “rackintosh”es out there, what are you guys doing?
my #GlobalTalk zone is now going down for an unspecified time as i move more computers into the new apartment
Expected to spend the easter weekend with family but ended up spending it mostly with fever and running nose 🤒 🤧
As a bit of consolation I restored my Powerbook 145. Gave the LCD new capacitors and that was all it needed really. It’s in excellent condition. The screen hinges and all plastic standoffs are still all holding up. Even the original 20MB Conner SCSI drive is still going after a bump stop surgery. Now I’m one step closer to browsing #GlobalTalk in style from my couch 🙂 #vintagemac
@mroach @kalleboo I managed to bring up a Microsoft Mail 3.0 server in the Digitopolis zone. The server is a faceless background extension; all configuration happens in the client by logging into the magic "Network Manager" account with a magic default password (which I changed, obviously.) When new mail comes in, you get a big notification alert.
Any QEMU #globaltalk users experience terrible mouse lag? It's nearly unusable. Doesn't seem to be an overall OS lag, but difficult to tell. #MARCHintosh
Guard cat, keeping your #GlobalTalk zones safe.
One thing I have in mind is keeping it simple enough to make a series of videos for next #MARCHintosh using it to introduce the very basics of Classic Mac OS Toolbox C programming - walking through what the framework does, and then showing some examples of adding buttons to windows that play sounds or show dialogs, and then opening up a Projector (version control system) database (repository) on #GlobalTalk for anyone else to add stuff in a collaborative project.
This weekend I made a lot of progress on my Classic Mac OS app template in C!
I have ideas for tools I want to make (mainly for #GlobalTalk), but need a foundation to build on. AIRConfig was built on of some very basic sample code included with MPW and really not suitable for extending even as far as I went with AIRConfig
There are also full-blown frameworks like MacApp and PowerPlant, but they seem like quite a lot of complexity to learn just for small tools
I've setup a public read-only Grafana instance for #globaltalk and my stats dashboard:
I'll add in more stats over time, once I start expanding my scraping scripts.
At some point i'll get a public Grafana instance to show off a running dashboard of these metrics, but i'm burning through a backlog of monitoring issues on my homelab first.
Spent some time playing with #netatalk and #globaltalk and built out some more Prometheus metrics to track zones, devices, AFP shares, and printers.
Also as a bonus see the migration of jrouter versions on the network.
