Remember that time I invented Graham Cracker biscuits for a dessert? The photo they are unbaked, not sure why I don't have an image of the baked ones.

They were so good. They held vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup drizzle.

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC from #MadCaveStudios for #BuriedLongLongAgo. The first issue is exactly what I want from a horror #comic. Here’s the description:

“Based on true events, from 1901-1908 Belle Gunness lured dozens of lonely men to her Indiana farm and savagely murdered them for their money. Because Belle managed to avoid capture and face trial, much of this story remains untold…”

I tore through this issue. It was as riveting to me as other fan-favorite graphic novels like From Hell and Torso that are based on real serial killers. #AnthonyCleveland weaves a truly creepy yarn. What makes his approach all the more chilling: he tells it through the POV of Belle’s children. The art by #AlexCormack is among the best work I’ve seen all year. (No wise guy, not just the first three weeks of 2025—I’m talking about for the past rolling twelve months.) #JustinBirch’s lettering ties it all together perfectly. The Mad Cave scream team takes you on a gruesome journey not to be missed.

Buried Long, Long Ago #1 is coming April 16, 2025. Remember to reach out to your LCS to order this series. My shop is #GrahamCrackers, and I’m doing my part to spread the word because this comic is exceptional.

The cover for Buried Long, Long Ago #1 has the title in a gothic font against dark skies above and a red glow at the horizon, with a sprawling farmhouse seen in silhouette behind the main characters, Belle Gunness with her three children dressed in period clothing; below their feet, underground, is an intricate root system surrounding the long skull of a creature with four tusks.Page 6 of Buried Long, Long Ago #1 features Belle Gunness, in a large, grey, atmospheric panel that takes up almost the whole spread, greeting her children with the dialogue balloon: “MY GIRLS YOU HAVE ARRIVED. WELCOME.” The girls in the bottom panel are staring up at her imposing figure, eyes wide, like they’re seeing a monster. In the last panel, Belle tells them to bring their bags to the carriage.Page 13 of Buried Long, Long Ago #1 features four panels depicting Belle Gunness, her girls, and their new “papa”—an older man in overalls—at their candlelit dinner table. He’s saying he feels like they’re all a “light in his darkness,” and just before the girls are sent to bed, Belle is standing in a black doorway in shadow and good lord is she giving him a cold glare.

@spiegelmama Trivial!

STEP 1:
1 regular box graham crackers (roughly 4 cups once ground up)
3 tsp baking powder

crumb the graham crackers with a food processor or blender and mix together in a bowl

STEP 2:

2 eggs
1 regular (15oz) can of pumpkin

blend in a second bowl

STEP 3:
Beat wet into dry, pour result into greased loaf pan (I used butter), bake 50-60 minutes in a preheated 350°F oven.

50 minutes was correct for our oven.

Frost as you like, I used a cream cheese frosting.

Done!

Picked up my copy of Svengoolie: Lost in Time published by Frank Miller Presents. I bought it from my local Graham Crackers Comic Books and chose their exclusive cover featuring art by the legendary Jill Thompson. The story and dialogue are by three guys named Rich Koz, Chris Faulkner, and Jim Roche…and it shows right from the first panel. I was also thrilled to see a short Nostalgiaferatoo backup story scripted by Bill Leff himself. And no, I didn’t find my copy in Berwyn (they don’t have comic book shops there).

Mike’s Victorian Trivia: Grahamites (followers of Sylvester Graham, AKA the “Father of Vegetarianism”) practiced vegetarianism; frequent bathing (ie 3x per week, in contrast to the 1-2x per year that others were practicing); regular exercise; avoidance of calomel (a highly toxic purgative that other medical professionals promoted and that destroyed the teeth & gums); & consumption of whole wheat products. They also invented Graham crackers to dissuade kids from masturbating. Graham died in 1851 after violating his own strictures and taking opium enemas in hopes of curing his ill health. Herman Melville references Graham Crackers in his novel, “Pierre, or the Ambiguities.”
