Tonight: somehow saw my 2nd of 3 "play the full album" shows in a single week. How is that possible? This one was Grandaddy playing Sophtware Slump in full in celebration of its 25th anniversary. 25?? How is that possible? Holds up pretty well! Then a short second set of other stuff. Pretty strong show, good not great, but good is good!, at Brooklyn Steel.
Opener Greg Freeman had a cool indie rock thing, band included both sax and pedal steel which gave it some interesting sonic avenues. Will seek him out for sure (his newest album is not bad!).

Oh, they also had a few orchard photos in the slideshow that accompanied the second half. Very possibly the same orchard that the music video for "Where I'm Anymore" was filmed in? Especially since one of those photos itself had a bicycle in it (very different from the one in the music video though)

What a show, wow. An absolute treasure to be able to see them live.
The set list was playing through almost all of The Sophtware Slump, followed by a broader selection of the band's discography. First half was accompanied with super neat motion graphics, 3 or 4 levels of parallax with mountain imagery evolving along with the music (e.g. the lake first appeared for "The Crystal Lake").
"Now It's On" was a fantastic way to open up the second half of the show. They even played "The Stray Dog and the Chocolate Shake" which is a personal favorite. Encore closer was A.M. 180 which is a natural choice as a crowd-pleaser.
They sounded incredible, I was kinda blown away. Crowd ate up the entire thing, lots and lots of people singing along. Room full of emotion.
