TBW N6 - the 6th leg of the Trans Bayerwald Tour 2024
The day started out bright, sunny and warm. After the first 800m vertical I took another elevensies break above Bodenmais, before tackling that day's main challenge: The climb up the Great Arber - the king of the bavarian forest.
At 1455m the weather was considerably colder and windier. I enjoyed the view all around until a few rain drops reminded my of the darkish clouds above. Time to leave. Luckily the wind blow the rain clouds in a different direction.
The 500m vertical descent over 5km from Reischflecksattel to Lohberghütte were most mtb worthy, with some very steep sections through dark woods. My saddle bag proved to be some what limiting both in how far I could lower my saddle and not having the rear wheel touch the bag and also how low I could get my own butt over the rear wheel. Still I made it down safely. The last bit was basically following through a little creek.
After that I only had a short climb left to the hotel, where I was the sole guest for that night. A furry little lady greeted my at the main door. From the balcony of my room I could see the domes of the weather stations at the Great Arbor.
I floated for a bit in the hotel pool. After almost 52km and 1470m of climbing I had not much energy for swimming left.
