#CervicalCancer deaths in young women plummet after introduction of HPV vaccine, finds study medicalxpress.com/news/2024-11 โ€œ"We observed a substantial reduction in mortalityโ€”a 62% drop in cervical cancer deaths over the last decade, likely due to #HPVvaccination,"

"There has been a decline in HPV vaccination post COVID-19 in the most recent generation of U.S. adolescents. This is troubling as a decline in vaccination uptake would potentially lead to smaller gains,"

Today marks the fourth anniversary of the global strategy to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem. This year's theme, "๐—˜๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ณ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—น๐˜๐—ต ๐˜„๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€: ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜€๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ด๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฏ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—บ๐—ถ๐˜๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐˜€ ๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜๐—ผ ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€," emphasizes the crucial role these workers play in delivering effective interventions for cervical cancer prevention, treatment, palliative care, and survivorship.

Cervical cancer remains a significant threat, being the second most common cancer among women in the WHO South-East Asia Region, with approximately 200,000 new cases and 120,000 deaths reported in 2022. However, it is largely preventable. WHOโ€™s ambitious targets are for member countries to achieve:

90% vaccination coverage of girls with the HPV vaccine by age 15
70% screening of women using high-performance tests by ages 35 and 45
90% treatment for women with pre-cancer and invasive cancer by 2030

Despite some progress, challenges remain, including vaccine supply shortages and access to care. It is imperative that all countries introduce nationwide HPV vaccination programs and expand cervical cancer screening.

We must uniteโ€”policymakers, health workers, civil society, and communitiesโ€”to ensure every girl and woman has access to life-saving interventions. Letโ€™s reaffirm our commitment to making cervical cancer elimination a reality!

We need to end the myth that our personal health is about individual choices since we are herd animals subject to disease spread among the herd.

Individual health isnโ€™t independent from community health.

This week is cervical cancer prevention week
23rd-29th January 2023
#thankscancer #cervicalcancer #HPVvaccination

We have the tools to make cervical cancer a thing of the past. HPV vaccination, cervical screening, and treatment for cell changes can all help prevent it but we need to increase awareness and uptake, and the funding to do so.

Did you know that 1 in 3 women do not take up their cervical screening (smear test) invite?
