Image was created by cartoonist Herbert Block in 1949, near the start of the "Second #RedScare." Seventy five years later, the powerful still use the tool of irrational #fear to suppress human #liberty.

‘PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC’ by #Herblock records the horrors of the Chinese suppression of student-led pro-democracy protests, when, on June 3 and 4, 1989, troops and tanks rolled into Tiananmen Square (Beijing) to violently crush the dissent. #tiananmensquare #Democracy #StudentProtests #Protests #EditorialCartoon #China #Democracy

A poignant cartoon in Herblock’s brilliant graphic style captures the tragedy of the massacre with an image of a Chinese People’s Army tank mowing over the limp bodies of student protesters. Grey monotones add to the sombre mood. Title above the cartoon reads: ‘People’s Republic’.

1. “With the arrest of Alexander #Smirnov — the main source of ‘evidence’ for the impeachment of Joe #Biden — for lying to the #FBI, and all the other witnesses refuting the notion that President Biden committed any high crime or misdemeanor, could the #House inquiry get any worse for the #GOP? Maybe.”-#RickMcKee

2. “The shoes are the least tacky aspect of the #WhiteSupremacist, #Fascist, neo-#NAZI-infested #MAGA movement.”-#DarrinBell

Nikita Khrushchev and Mao Zedong with hammer and sickle, 1960
portrays Communist China’s Mao Zedong and the Soviet Union’s Nikita Khrushchev seemingly united by the Soviet symbol of the hammer and sickle. However, by 1960, China and Russia were denouncing each other because of differences in ideology. Each leader, clenches his fist and glares at the other with a grim expression, enhanced by body language that indicates a face off between the two communist leaders.

Caricature showing painting portraits of Bill C, Ronald R, Richard N, and Joseph M, all posed nude, Clinton and McCarthy are bashful of their nudity, whereas, Reagan and Nixon strike poses of a song and dance man and a muscleman respectively, seemingly ignoring his models, Herblock paints them as he sees them; just visible on the far left is a portrait of Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
