#HogbackStone

For #TombTuesday, here's a #Viking hogback stone I came across at the #Luss Parish Churchyard in #Scotland. The hogback stone is typical of an Anglo-Scandinavian grave marker from the 11th century with a curved ridge decorated with shingles reminiscent of a Viking longhouse. It dates back to the time when #Vikings raided the area (around 1260). These types of stones are only found in the British Isles and Ireland.

A Viking grave that looks like an upside down boat in a cemetery among old, ordinary headstones.

A chilly Viking sits huddled for warmth atop an early medieval Hogback stone monument, in the snow. A little robin perched on the hilt of his sword and a standing cross in the distance.
