Our Director of Philanthropy was quoted in Daily Emerald:

Eugene voted to update its camping ordinance on May 24, increasing punishments for people caught illegally camping twice in a month. Heather Quaas-Annsa of Community Supported Shelters said, "Punitive measures really don't make sense to a population that is inherently struggling financially."

TELL NPS TO STOP FORT RENO ENCAMPMENT EVICTION

Temperatures are dropping, & residents have been cleaning and maintaining the park for 2 years

Fort Reno residents received a one week notice to leave

Some residents are navigating the voucher process now, including a disabled senior

Displacing residents makes it harder to keep in contact with case managers and can harm the housing process

TELL NPS TO STOP FORT RENO
ENCAMPMENT EVICTION

Sample Script

My name is [name] and I am calling to demand the National Park Service-Rock Creek stop the Fort Reno encampment eviction scheduled for Friday, 12/16/2022. It is already hypothermia season and temperatures are expected to get even colder throughout the week. Displacing people during the height of winter is both dangerous and inhumane. Furthermore, residents of the camp haven’t received social services and were only given one week’s notice regarding the eviction. Camp residents include people with disabilities and seniors, many of whom are currently trying to navigate the housing process and have nowhere else to go. I believe this is a waste of time and resources, slows down the housing process, and puts already marginalized people at greater risk.
