🌎 White-throated hummingbird (Leucochloris albicollis)

The white-throated hummingbird is a distinctive medium-sized hummingbird, 10-11.5 cm long, with both sexes displaying mossy golden-green upperparts and a striking bold white throat and belly. The bill is straight, medium-length, with a blackish upper mandible and a red lower mandible tipped with black. This species is distributed across eastern Paraguay, southeastern Brazil, Uruguay, and northeastern Argentina, inhabiting semi-open to open areas like forest edges, marshes, scrublands, parks, and gardens, generally below 1000m elevation. White-throated hummingbirds primarily forage for nectar from a wide variety of native and introduced flowering plants, often visiting feeders. They are mostly sedentary, though some local dispersal occurs. Their breeding season is from October to March, building a cup nest on horizontal branches. They are generally common and adaptable to human-modified habitats. No subspecies are recognised.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)
