Records broken on the opposite side of the world with Cyclone #Ilsa. Australian ten-minute sustained wind speed record of 218km/h recorded at Bedout Island. Cyclone George (2007) was the previous record holder with 194km/h. Ilsa is now a Category 5 storm and expected to make landfall around the #Pilbara Coast of #Australia. #wx

13:45 UTC Thursday - Category 5 (AU) Cyclone #Ilsa nearing landfall east of Port Headland, Western Australia bringing with it heavy rain and winds sustained at 215 km/h, gusts to 295 km/h. This is a fairly quick mover and should turn eastward to moisten other bits of the northern half of the state in the coming days but weakening will be fairly slow.

This storm is the equivalent of a Category 4 on the US hurricane scale.
