Passing in the Night

I'm standing outside a pub
on my own
The rock gig has just finished.
A man approaches me.
"How are you Pat?"
"I'm lonely."
"Yeah but how are things?"
"I just told you — I'm lonely."
"Ah come on Pat — how's it going?"
"How often do I have to tell you?
I'm lonely."
He looks at me and shakes his head
and walks away again.
I didn't feel quite so lonely then.
