I've now moved across the Bosphorus to the Asian side, for two nights at my posh hotel's sister property in Çengelköy, Vakko Hotel Sumahan. Interesting place, the building used to be a factory in Ottoman times and it's right on the water. Nice view from my room!

Nothing more unnerving than staying at a very posh hotel that's slightly out of the way and suddenly realising the only nearby restaurants charge $40 for a pizza.

I've just made a quick mercy dash to the nearest Carrefour supermarket for a stash of sandwiches, for when I don't want to go out for a meal. Phew.

In my Istanbul hotel's lovely dining room, having breakfast all by myself for the second morning in a row. Verifies my earlier observation: in big hotels the guests come down to breakfast early, in small ones they come down late.
