I would LOVE a festival like this in my area - which happens to be the home of #JeremyDutcher and #Wolfcastle!

For any Jeremy Dutcher fans in #yeg, next tour leg doesn't have a stop here but instead in Leduc, of all places! February 11, Maclab Centre for the Performing Arts.

Bonus 1: Jeremy Dutcher - Motewolonuwok (2023)
I'm not sure there's ever been an album before this one that I so obsessively listened to. Like, over 200 times between its release in October and the end of the year. (I started suspecting I might be on the spectrum around the same time...) This tour was also the first concert I went to since the pandemic started (and only concert, so far), making it a whole different experience for various reasons.
Ermagherd, a 45-min CBC feature on #JeremyDutcher's Toronto show is up.
Okay, here's my list in list form. I did 10 categories to get away from ranking them all though, so here's my 40ish "Top 10", with one category per toot. Bandcamp links are in blog post. :ablobdj:
Category 1: Most intense albums of the year
Rye – Всё (atmospheric black metal/blackgaze)
#JeremyDutcher – Motewolonuwok (neo-Indigenous/neoclassical)
#ANOHNI and the Johnsons – My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross (pop soul/art pop)
#SufjanStevens – Javelin (indie)
A beautiful video from my favorite and most listened to artist/album of the year.

I've had the honour of doing sound for #JeremyDutcher twice. He's super cool - a generational champion of #indigenous language, art, music, culture, life, and two-spirits. He internalises the horrors of history and the present, and exudes a palpable positivity with an actionable message of hope and togetherness that blows past placation and delivers a way out of the darkness.
Pretty remarkable stuff, especially from someone so young.

Heartbreaking pairing: listening to “Ancestors Too Young” by #JeremyDutcher while reading the “Please Keep Loving” chapter of A History of My Brief Body by #BillyRayBelcourt. 💔
Are Mastodonians still doing top 7 lists? Can we do #Top7Concerts? Here's mine, in chronological order:
1. #Bjork (Volta tour, outdoor venue in Vancouver)
2. #SigurRos (Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust tour, outdoor venue on pier in Montreal)
3. #Auðn (2017, in Reykjavik)
4. #Wardruna (2018 tour, in Montreal)
5. #TanyaTagaq (Split Tooth release tour, in a church in Edmonton)
6. #YOB (Our Raw Heart tour, in Toronto)
7. #JeremyDutcher (Motewolonuwok tour, Winspear in Edmonton)
Love this: “There’s a lot that a garment can say without having words on it,” says Dutcher. “I want [my style] to dance a line between the traditional and classical, and what people might expect somebody to wear when they come to a concert. And then, queer it up.”
It's been a few lifetimes since I cared what Vogue had to say about anything, but it's still pretty cool that they did a feature on #JeremyDutcher (who I get to see live tonight! squee!!!).
Time for the latest #Shfl update, featuring @burningambulance, #AndyBeta and myself, my reviews being of #JeremyDutcher and #DebbyFriday #music https://news.theshfl.com/p/shfl-update-1012
I believe I mentioned the excellent #Elisapie album #Inuktitut the other week. May I also recommend #JeremyDutcher's new album #Motewolonuwok? It is easy to just let it and his voice take you away and you can. But the deeper waters are all the more vivid in their power. Perhaps especially now. #music https://jeremydutcher1.bandcamp.com/album/motewolonuwok
The new #JeremyDutcher album is out, and it's absolutely gorgeous. Definitely going to be in my top 5 of the year.
@heathen Ooo, I love these sort of posts! I keep a list throughout the year for potential Albums of the Year, and I already have 33 albums on there (!). But going through it, I just realized there's only a select few I still actually have on repeat:
#AcidKing - Beyond Vision
#SigurRos - Átta
#Blackbraid - Blackbraid II
#PaulSimon - Seven Psalms
Honorable mention because it hasn't yet been released (but I've had the singles released so far on repeat):
#JeremyDutcher - Motewolonuwok
Just realized that the first 3 songs plus another from Motewolonuwok by #JeremyDutcher are already streaming. I think it's safe to say that it will be an AOTY.
Dutcher describes it as being about "queer power, healing the collective and reclaiming ancestor wisdom", so get those ear holes ready for Friday!
