Finished anime: Sorairo Utility
Another nice hobby anime that was a relaxing watch for winding down. I have never really been interested in golf but it brought across the joy and fun of it.
The characters weren’t too special but worked well for me.
If I had to highlight one highlight it would be the cross-generational connect with the older guys at the golf range. Also I just like the penguin mascot.
And, of course, the sometimes really Studio Trigger like eyecatch illustrations mid-episode 😄

Finished anime: Ameku MD
We put this off for a while which was good because it allowed us to watch whole cases / arcs without waiting time.
My initial impression was that this is a classical detective story except the cases just so happen to require medical knowledge, but there was much more variety in the kinds of cases Ameku investigated. I was also positively surprised by the episode that showed her troubled about her inability to read emotions and be accordingly considerate to patients (honestly that was kind of relatable to me).
I did notice that the art quality deteriorated during the season which was a pity.
I wouldn’t need another season but think I’d watch it.

Finished anime: From Bureaucrat to Villainess
This was mainly good because Kenzaburous attitude and way of seeing things is refreshingly different from what we usually see in anime. I really appreciate him being a dad but also a nerd, but not nerdy enough to know exactly where the game is leading him.
The other characters were okay considering that they are supposed to be stereotypical romance game characters. Unfortunately the bad puns of Richard were too hard to get across, at least for the person doing the German subtitles.

It was just a pity that the story couldn’t conclude in one season, at some point it seemed like it would be possible.

Finished anime: Trillion Game
Although it hadn’t quite pulled me in at the beginning it was hard to stop watching because there was challenge after challenge for the main characters. It felt like Dr. Stone in the modern world and only after finishing I learned that the two series actually share the same writer.
The fascination for this one comes from the fact that it looks like it could actually happen exactly like that.
Sometimes the combi of Haru and Gaku seemed a bit too extreme but in other moments they felt rather genuine. I also found many other characters that I grew to like.
The non-ending was just not great, I’d like to follow this story more.

Finished Anime: Maho Girls #PreCure II Mirai Days
This was tough to get through. Same as the first season, the relationship and interactions of Mirai and Liko are just fine and cute and although nobody said they’re a couple they definitely are.
And then there is the plot. The series had two parts, the first was exhausting because Ire was all secretive about what he wants to do and why (the answers were not interesting) and then we had Chronosto doing his thing but taking ages to do it. The themes of fearing the future or wanting to stay in the past were under-explored in favor of dozens of random flashbacks and in the end the whole fight seemed random.
Sadly not worth the long wait.

Finished anime: Guild receptionist
This one had some ups and downs. Alina and Jade were definitely fun to watch interact and I really liked how they were fleshed out with some lively details. The only thing I didn’t really get is why she acted so annoyed about him when he was mostly being nice.
But then there was Lululee, and I really don’t want to hate on her for being girly but her lack of confidence was just exhausting to watch and only the hope that it’ll get better made me keep going (it did get better, thankfully). Also most villains were throwaway thugs that were annoyingly flat.
Honestly not sure if I’d watch a second season.
But the ending was a banger.

Finished anime: Welcome to Japan, Miss Elf
I could really have done without this being a generic Isekai half of the time. Thankfully, Kazuhiro and Mariabelle are nice to watch even when they are just exploring dungeons, but I liked it much more when they were discovering Japan and japanese Food.
They are maybe not the best anime couple in the world but I liked to see them together and I liked that Wridra didn’t turn it into a harem and rather watched over them.
I think I’d watch a second season for some more exploring Japan.

Finished anime: #ReZero Season 3
I think I wrote this before, but the setting of multiple enemies appearing and the well-known heroes taking them on in separate fights could easily be boring. Somehow this was not, although it’s hard to pinpoint what made this different than for example My Hero Academia.
I think one aspect is that we’re used to seeing Subaru trying to figure everything out alone dying over and over, and that just didn’t happen this time. Instead a lot of characters got a chance to really show how cool and powerful they are. And the animation never disappointed.
I guess another season could be totally different again, but I liked this one.

Finished Anime: Dr. Stone Science Future
I already wrote mid-season that this is one of my top 3 from the season and it was holding up strongly. The series manages to change the setting enough to stay interesting, it’s constantly evolving and adding new characters. It never got boring!
Just the last episode felt a bit rushed to reach the point where it made sense to set the cliffhanger for a new season, which I’m now eagerly waiting for.

Finished anime: Zenshuu
This one was going extremely strong from beginning to end. Just when you thought it was going a certain way it threw something new and interesting in, like that flashback episode from the perspective of people who knew Natsuko. The last stretch was captivating and I really wanted to know how it will go since the actual ending of the movie Natsuko was caught in was always up as an option. She got some really nice character development and I have to say I loved pretty much all the characters in the end and they made great contributions to the plot.

The only thing that was sad is that I felt there should have been a longer epilogue, maybe even a whole episode. But it was an overall great experience!

Overall, I will put Wonderful high in my ranking of PreCure seasons. It was very wholesome most of the time, had some really touching moments, and I will really miss the characters. Komugi was just spot-on behaving like a (my) dog and I love her.

Finished: Tower Of God s2
This was a drag and it was mostly curiosity where they want to go that kept us watching.
The new cast members didn’t quite gain my sympathy as much as the old ones, and except for Horyang they are also quite unimportant for everything, so I was glad when first Khun and then the other season 1 regulars got involved again.
And then there is the plot… what plot? It seems like there is one but I am getting more and more confused because a lot of stuff is not really explained (I didn’t even quite understand the rank system) and there are too many involved characters and factions.
Another season would be a big “maybe” although I’d like to know what everyone is up to.

Finished: Gun Gale Online II
I liked the first season and its characters, and I also liked the second. The events were interesting and there were some real surprises in there (won’t spoil). Llenn and Pitohui are especially cornerstones of this and just fun to watch on their own but also in their interactions.
The characters (players) are serious about winning events, but the show also doesn’t let us forget that the characters are just playing a game for fun, which for me makes it more likable than SAO which always came up with plots where lives are at stake (that’s very subjective of course but I prefer the low stakes, or maybe I just dislike the writing of SAO).
I’d absolutely come back for another season.

Finished: Ranma 1/2 remake s1
While there are some questionable aspects that I talked about before (a lot of fighting to “win” someone by beating someone else), the character dynamics work and make this a fun show even today.
And I really like the choice of colors in the remake, everything looks really vibrant and nice.
Good show to keep watching.

Finished anime: Mecha-Ude
One could tell that this could easily have had more episodes, but in my opinion the creators managed to select the right scenes to make it into the final result. Although it was fast-paced (which especially didn’t leave too much room for convincing character moments and development) it was easy to follow. I liked that the character design was on the simple side but animated quite well, using the strengths of the medium.
The story overall was not the most mind-blowing and I kind of wished the resolution were more creative than just being stronger than the last enemy, but overall it was a good show with likable characters.

Finished anime: DanDaDan s1
There’s honestly no way this could have failed, I love the manga since the first chapter and it got a great studio working on it.
Okarun and Momo are just a refreshing combo, and then there’s all those crazy ideas for aliens and evil spirits that are appropriately creepy.
The anime also found some great ways to set the scene, the choice of animation, lighting (light colors) and some other creative depictions made this extremely satisfying to watch.

The “ending” (total cliffhanger) of the first cour of #ByeByeEarth just left me at a loss what to make of this. I hardly got what was even happening in those last two episodes.
The show has a lot of interesting and unique concepts but the anime adaptation didn’t find a good way to really get those concepts across to someone who doesn’t know the source material. At least I hope that is better at explaining the world and its rituals.
I liked Belle and several of the other characters but they really lost me with Adonis’ character development in a bad direction. Not sure if I’ll pick up the second cour, if it is coming (I didn’t check sources but the sudden ending reeks of production problems that a popular show likely wouldn’t have).

I’m still trying to wrap my mind around the way #MayonakaPunch ended. It was different than expected. Overall the series had some ups and downs, it was mostly interesting but I couldn’t get myself to get too attached to the characters. I also just can’t quite relate to the topic because I’m not following any real world YouTubers like that group and kind of not get the appeal of watching random videos.
And, entirely as expected, the whole relationship of Masaki and Live turned out to be one big ship tease again without going anywhere near romantic or erotic feelings…
So overall it was entertaining but I can’t fully endorse it.

It feels like I’m pretty alone with it (the show was nominated as worst anime of the season by two ANN reviewers) but I liked #DahliaInBloom a lot. I’m repeating myself because I wrote it a few episodes ago, but overall I just enjoy the mix. Seeing the characters enjoy food, set up a business and tinker with magic tools was just relaxing. And I like that Dahlia and Wolf are explicitly not having romantic feelings for each other, although others interpret it that way.
I can absolutely see how the bad production values can ruin it and how the second half may be boring if you expected something else. Maybe I’m just happy with this because a friend who is very familiar with the manga pitched the story as exactly what it became 😁

I thoroughly enjoyed #TooManyLosingHeroines. The premise could easily have ended in a wish fulfillment harem setting but it chose to tell the stories of various characters and their relationships. The fact that Nukumizu is both actively involved but also somewhat of a neutral instance who watches the titular heroines sort out their relationships works quite well. Despite being somewhat comedically overdrawn, the characters stay believable. I also like that the couples who did get together are also getting some focus and feel real, rather than just being there to make the “losing heroines” suffer.
This was really enjoyable.
