Finished anime: Sorairo Utility
Another nice hobby anime that was a relaxing watch for winding down. I have never really been interested in golf but it brought across the joy and fun of it.
The characters weren’t too special but worked well for me.
If I had to highlight one highlight it would be the cross-generational connect with the older guys at the golf range. Also I just like the penguin mascot.
And, of course, the sometimes really Studio Trigger like eyecatch illustrations mid-episode 😄

Finished anime: Ameku MD
We put this off for a while which was good because it allowed us to watch whole cases / arcs without waiting time.
My initial impression was that this is a classical detective story except the cases just so happen to require medical knowledge, but there was much more variety in the kinds of cases Ameku investigated. I was also positively surprised by the episode that showed her troubled about her inability to read emotions and be accordingly considerate to patients (honestly that was kind of relatable to me).
I did notice that the art quality deteriorated during the season which was a pity.
I wouldn’t need another season but think I’d watch it.

Finished anime: From Bureaucrat to Villainess
This was mainly good because Kenzaburous attitude and way of seeing things is refreshingly different from what we usually see in anime. I really appreciate him being a dad but also a nerd, but not nerdy enough to know exactly where the game is leading him.
The other characters were okay considering that they are supposed to be stereotypical romance game characters. Unfortunately the bad puns of Richard were too hard to get across, at least for the person doing the German subtitles.
It was just a pity that the story couldn’t conclude in one season, at some point it seemed like it would be possible.

Finished anime: Trillion Game
Although it hadn’t quite pulled me in at the beginning it was hard to stop watching because there was challenge after challenge for the main characters. It felt like Dr. Stone in the modern world and only after finishing I learned that the two series actually share the same writer.
The fascination for this one comes from the fact that it looks like it could actually happen exactly like that.
Sometimes the combi of Haru and Gaku seemed a bit too extreme but in other moments they felt rather genuine. I also found many other characters that I grew to like.
The non-ending was just not great, I’d like to follow this story more.

Finished Anime: Maho Girls #PreCure II Mirai Days
This was tough to get through. Same as the first season, the relationship and interactions of Mirai and Liko are just fine and cute and although nobody said they’re a couple they definitely are.
And then there is the plot. The series had two parts, the first was exhausting because Ire was all secretive about what he wants to do and why (the answers were not interesting) and then we had Chronosto doing his thing but taking ages to do it. The themes of fearing the future or wanting to stay in the past were under-explored in favor of dozens of random flashbacks and in the end the whole fight seemed random.
Sadly not worth the long wait.

Finished anime: Guild receptionist
This one had some ups and downs. Alina and Jade were definitely fun to watch interact and I really liked how they were fleshed out with some lively details. The only thing I didn’t really get is why she acted so annoyed about him when he was mostly being nice.
But then there was Lululee, and I really don’t want to hate on her for being girly but her lack of confidence was just exhausting to watch and only the hope that it’ll get better made me keep going (it did get better, thankfully). Also most villains were throwaway thugs that were annoyingly flat.
Honestly not sure if I’d watch a second season.
But the ending was a banger.

Finished anime: Welcome to Japan, Miss Elf
I could really have done without this being a generic Isekai half of the time. Thankfully, Kazuhiro and Mariabelle are nice to watch even when they are just exploring dungeons, but I liked it much more when they were discovering Japan and japanese Food.
They are maybe not the best anime couple in the world but I liked to see them together and I liked that Wridra didn’t turn it into a harem and rather watched over them.
I think I’d watch a second season for some more exploring Japan.

Finished anime: #ReZero Season 3
I think I wrote this before, but the setting of multiple enemies appearing and the well-known heroes taking them on in separate fights could easily be boring. Somehow this was not, although it’s hard to pinpoint what made this different than for example My Hero Academia.
I think one aspect is that we’re used to seeing Subaru trying to figure everything out alone dying over and over, and that just didn’t happen this time. Instead a lot of characters got a chance to really show how cool and powerful they are. And the animation never disappointed.
I guess another season could be totally different again, but I liked this one.

Finished Anime: Dr. Stone Science Future
I already wrote mid-season that this is one of my top 3 from the season and it was holding up strongly. The series manages to change the setting enough to stay interesting, it’s constantly evolving and adding new characters. It never got boring!
Just the last episode felt a bit rushed to reach the point where it made sense to set the cliffhanger for a new season, which I’m now eagerly waiting for.

Finished anime: Zenshuu
This one was going extremely strong from beginning to end. Just when you thought it was going a certain way it threw something new and interesting in, like that flashback episode from the perspective of people who knew Natsuko. The last stretch was captivating and I really wanted to know how it will go since the actual ending of the movie Natsuko was caught in was always up as an option. She got some really nice character development and I have to say I loved pretty much all the characters in the end and they made great contributions to the plot.
The only thing that was sad is that I felt there should have been a longer epilogue, maybe even a whole episode. But it was an overall great experience!

In the ongoing anime season, the 3 anime where I’m really looking forward to new episodes and can’t wait for them to come out are Dr. Stone, The Apothecary Diaries, and Zenshu.
Even so many seasons in, Dr. stone keeps moving on with the scenario and presenting new challenges. It just never gets boring.
The Apothecary Diaries is a gem that doesn’t shy away from heavy topics as shown by the former emperor‘s story. There are mysteries, things to learn, and cool characters.
Zenshu really got more intense and really creates suspense by having the protagonist know the original ending of the story she ended up in. The characters are really lovable and Natsuko is both complicated and relatable.

New anime: Witchy PreCure!! Mirai Days
It’s been years since the first season and I never rewatched it (it was really not among my favorites) but the sequel manages to feel nostalgic anyway. Mirai and Liko’s relationship is kind of nice.
Now the sequel so far (I’m 2 episodes in) is entertaining but I’m not sure what to think about the plot so far if you can call it one.
The villain seems way too mysterious so far (especially considering it’s a short series) Surprisingly enough, him looking like a regular guy and being a dog owner doesn’t make him sympathetic to me in any way because we know nothing about his life.
The fights and animations look nice.

New anime: You & Idol Precure
It’s really tough to judge a PreCure series by the first episode because those are usually very similar. This one felt a bit nostalgic because it has been a while since the last seaason where a meeting with the mascot kicks things off. It did a good job of introducing Uta and her surroundings, and suprisingly didn’t force that the other two girls also show up already.
I liked that Uta tried to help Purirun when she (?) is not in immediate danger yet… The search for PreCure was also a bit funny.
I hope Purirun learns to be a bit less selfish / distracted, I already found it a bit annoying.

New anime: Ameku MD
This anime feels a bit like someone said “let’s make The Apothecary Diaries but in the modern world”. Although I have to say that Takao so far makes a weaker impression than Maomao because she has those times where she acts incredibly childish-selfish. After the first 2 episodes I already kind of hope she’ll hit a wall and encounter some case that she can’t easily solve.
The first case also seemed rather constructed as something that only a medical professional could solve.
I’ll check out the next case, but I can’t quite say that I’m hooked yet.

After watching some more episodes from the Winter 2025 anime season last night, I have my final list of shows I'll be watching weekly.
Surprisingly I have 11 shows I'm keeping up with. Also continuing A Terrified Teacher at Ghoul School! which started last season.
Also, I'll be giving more details on why I'm watching these shows, as well as reasons why I dropped and stalled on others during the quarterly anime season preview Otaku In Review episode.
Recording the show this weekend with @station, so I'll announce once the podcast episode is live.
New anime: Honey Lemon Soda
I am finding (yet again) that it’s hard for me to sympathize with shy girls like Ishimori.
The first episode manages to bring her just far enough that I can see the potential for her to become more than that, but so far she’s just not interesting but also doesn’t work as a self-insert (for me). The Shoujo heroine who never ever had any friends just seems too extreme to me (I’m saying that as someone who always found it difficult to make friends).
I think I might give this one more episode, but I’m not so thrilled about the idea of a woman who needs the existence (and encouragement) of a love interest to dare virtually anything.
