A livello di notorietà, Jozef Chen è senza dubbio il nome di punta del team, vantando un seguito social che surclassa quello dei suoi compagni. Ma sui tatami, i numeri dei follower contano poco. Il lottatore taiwanese-tedesco ha fatto parlare di sé nel 2023 vincendo le ADCC Qualifier, guadagnandosi il premio di Breakthrough Athlete Of The Year da FloGrappling. Nonostante il talento, il 2024 non è stato l’anno della consacrazione: il suo record di 5-3 non ha incluso vittorie su avversari di primo livello.
I veterani più esperti della squadra sono Santeri Lilius ed Eoghan O’Flanagan, ma l’uomo da tenere d’occhio potrebbe essere l’ultimo innesto del team, il polacco Pawe? Jaworski. Nonostante sia ancora cintura marrone, Jaworski ha messo in mostra un 2024 spettacolare, grazie a un leg-lock game di alto livello, una resistenza incredibile e una grande atletismo. Senza dubbio uno dei migliori specialisti delle gambe in Europa e un grappler sempre spettacolare da guardare.
Squadra Nordamericana (P31)
Un team con un mix interessante di atleti provenienti da USA, Canada e Costa Rica, pronto a portare spettacolo e sottomissioni veloci. Tra i più entusiasmanti per stile di gioco e costanza ci sono sicuramente PJ Barch e Julián Espinosa. Alcuni membri della squadra (Kichuk, Perez, Wojcik) hanno alternato fasi di grande forma a momenti meno brillanti negli ultimi anni, ma quando sono al massimo, regalano performance elettrizzanti.
La presenza più fisica della squadra è Devonte Johnson, il più difficile da finalizzare del gruppo. Nonostante non sia un lottatore particolarmente incline alle sottomissioni (sub-ratio sotto il 30%), il suo grappling solido lo rende un avversario ostico per chiunque.
Superfight: Helena Crevar vs. Anabel Lopez
Il menu di Polaris 31 offre anche una super sfida tra due delle giovani promesse più interessanti del circuito. Helena Crevar, allieva di John Danaher, è una macchina da finalizzazioni che si basa su schemi precisi e una meccanica perfetta nel gioco ravvicinato. Dall’altra parte, Anabel Lopez, grappler di Londra cresciuta nella fucina di talenti Fightzone sotto la guida di Marco Canha, si distingue per uno stile più aggressivo, un ottimo wrestling e una propensione alle transizioni veloci e agli scambi ad alta intensità.
Un match dal contrasto di stili affascinante: Crevar è metodica e chirurgica, Lopez è una guerriera che gioca d’istinto. Chi avrà la meglio?

Today’s listening is ’Gentle Spirit’, the 2011 album by Jonathan Wilson.
In particular, this is the 2017 limited edition repressing of this album on clear vinyl.
I asked Jonathan Wilson to sign this album for me after I attended an ‘in store’ performance by him here in Munich.
Which, on reflection, was not the best of choices on my part as this is not one of his better albums!
For me, it’s far too laid-back and several tracks drag on for far too long. Oh well.
