ICYMI: I’ve deleted my Academia.edu account — and I’m not looking back.
Why? Because they don’t support science — they exploit it.

Academia.edu nudges users into paid plans, and wraps commercial goals in academic aesthetics. It’s not open science. It’s a business.

I moved to platforms that respect scholarly values and promote real accessibility (at least I think).

@rzeta0 @stevegis_ssg
There's also academia.edu which lets you download papers from researchers' pages.Finally, I have no problem with using Sci–Hub if I can't get a paper any other way, tho it"s technically piracy (n. b. only affects publishers' profits since academics don't make any money from journal publications). I strongly believe #KnowledgeShouldBeFree, especially publicly funded research.

Wonders of the Web get lost and disappear. Yet it is possible to keep the magic of the Internet alive.
I just wrote a short note on (imho) the most important — and probably the easiest — way to help nourishing more meaningful and sustainable interne.

Support @Wikipedia and a world where knowledge is free for everyone. I just donated to the #knowledgeshouldbefree #wikimediafoundation #sharingiscaring
Every single donation helps improve people’s access to accurate and reliable information, especially in a rapidly changing world. Supporting them enables billions of people to experience the gift of #knowledge through #wikipedia.

@weareintolerant Such a tragic story re: AS. Makes zero sense that someone like him would be threatened with decades of imprisonment while real criminal politicians spread unchecked evil.

Hey if anyone's got resources for *low-cost or free* up-to-date online access to high-quality science journals/databases, please share... One limited but invaluable resource (not sure if you can join outside of Canada, or if you haven't been a U student) for sharing knowledge is the volunteer-run, low profile Canadian Academy of Independent Scholars (CAIS). Annual fee of about $100 Cdn / year + student card from former university gets access to a wide range of peer-reviewed science/econ/health+++ lit (and many more university library resources) lit. I don't know if similar organizations exist elsewhere, but there should be more like CAIS.
