When in #Copenhagen 🇩🇰 earlier this month, I took a suburban train to #Helsingør, right by the sea and just opposite #Helsingborg 🇸🇪. A busy railway and ferry hub, it is home to #Kronborg Castle, the setting of #Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. The town is also known as #Elsinore in #Shakespeare's play.

On visite l'un des plus célèbres châteaux du Danemark, le Château de Kronborg, classé au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.
Très connu grâce à Shakespeare sous le nom d'Elseneur dans Hamlet.
On a une très bonne vue sur l'Øresund, les canons et les douves depuis les remparts.

Après avoir longé la magnifique Côte Danoise au nord de Copenhague, on fait notre premier arrêt à Helsingør, au Château de Kronborg (Hamlet de Shakespeare).
Le château est classé au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.

After cruising along the magnificent Danish coast north of Copenhagen, we make our first stop in Helsingør, at Kronborg Castle (Shakespeare's Hamlet).
The castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The second castle we visited on our day in Denmark back in 2017 was Kronborg, immortalised in William Shakespeare's Hamlet, and because of that we had a tour of the castle from someone dressed in period gear recounting elements of the play. It even included projected ghosts onto glass at one part. Entertaining if you're a fan of the bard.

We're standing on one side of a moat looking across to the castle protected within its boundary. On the opposite side of the still, dark water from us is a high wall made of red bricks. It's about five metres high and topped with a bank of green grass. Behind we can see the castle which is made from pale, warm-toned stone blocks. An octagonal tower stands on the corner nearest us with five storeys visible by counting the windows, but there is at least one more storey below the level of the grass in front. Atop the top there is an ornate, tall turret in copper turned green with age and exposure to the air, decorated with golden balls around one part of its upper section and topped with a spire piercing another golden ball. Further away we can see the top of a matching tower further back in the defences.

A castle for #TravelTuesday today, and this is Kronborg in Denmark, located in Helsingør, or Elsinore, and the setting for Shakespeare's Hamlet. We visited in 2017 and had an interesting guided tour from a local in Shakespearian costume complete with projections of ghosts on glass.

It's a bright day with a sky a mixture of blue patches and white clouds although the sun is covered right now. We're standing on the stone-paved edge of a moat, the surface of which is a couple of metres down. It's a wide moat and on the other side is a nearly sheer edge of red brick wall a dozen or more metres high topped by grass. A bridge stretches across the water ahead of us, supported by thick columns. Beyond the wall we can see a pale-stone castle with medieval, European styling including a tiled roof along its long wall and a tower on the corner with copper top turned green with age.
