#L2ARC is the cache to use on #ZFS, and before that going with the 1:1024 rule (1GB RAM for 1TB of ZFS size) will greatly improve performance...

More won't unless one is pushing the limits of the drives but goin less will hurt it very much and I'd only violate that rule when it's only about transplanting data from an old ZFS to a new one "offline" (which means there should only be like 1 active copy process and nothing else touch either ZFSes)...
