Still need reasons to switch from Audible to #Librofm for #audiobooks (other that the peace of mind it would bring)? How about this cute af icon?! ❤️

I wrote a #python client for #Librofm https://codeberg.org/bfordham/librofm
Using #jellyfin I naturally wanted to put the #audiobooks I've purchased on it. And I didn't want to do it all by hand. Then things kinda spiraled, they way they do when you write software for fun as well as for work.
Hopefully folks will find it useful.

Bye bye #Audible , hello #LibroFM o/
Wish I had done this sooner!
I also didn’t know so of @pluralistic ’s #audiobooks were on there.
Even some I couldn’t find on https://craphound.com/all-audiobooks/ !
LibroFM is having an Indie Bookshop Appreciation Sale
The sale includes, Blackheart Man by Nalo Hopkinson
My Review:
Myth, Magic and History blend on the island of Chynchin. Threatened by an imperial power it's population looks to its mythical past for solutions.
Veycosi, a local scoundrel and history student with the heart of an engineer, is tasked with studying the magical victory that earned Chynchin its independence.
This is not a simplistic story, with plucky egalitarian islanders as the good guys and the empire as the villains. The island is not perfect and has its share of sins.
Veycosi is very much a representation of the powers of ADHD and is constantly getting into trouble, weather by his own actions or due to the magical nature of Chynchin.
He reminded me of the Jewish story about the difference between a Shlumiel and a Shlimazel.
The Shlumiel when carrying a bowl of soup will inevitably drop it over someone.
The Shlimazel is the person that somehow manages to allways find himself in the path of the soup.
Veycosi somehow manages to embody both aspects of such misfortune.
LibroFM is having an Indie Bookshop Appreciation Sale
The sale includes Premee Mohamed's wonderful novella: The Annual Migration of Clouds
My Review:
This story starts with an acceptance letter to university in one of the remaining domes.
It is not the story of a girl from the waists struggling to integrate into privileged society.
This is a story about leaving a struggling community and an overprotective parent, with a mysterious fungal parasite to boot.

If anyone is hearing a lot about, "Picks and shovels" by @pluralistic #LibroFM is having a sale on a lot of audiobooks, among others "Red Team Blues", the first book (and also the last?) about Martin Hench.
Libro.fm lets you download the books you buy, so you actually buy them. No take backsies

I've been trying to ditch all my US-based services and replace them with European services but #LibroFM is just one I cannot drop. They're great.
Besides, for every DRM-free #audiobook I purchase, they give some money to my local bookstore here in Norway, @prismaticpages
7/9 – Customizing #Android settings on the #booxpalma has definitely been quite a learning curve, after only using Apple stuff for the past 15 years, but I'm getting there.
Why on earth do I need to "unfreeze" apps, and keep enabling them in the playstore for them to not dissapear?
Using the Niagara launcher removes a lot of clutter from the default apps lying around. And I was actually a bit surprised to see that I could connect the airpods without much hassle, for audiobooks with #librofm.
Here's my March wrap-up on #storygraph
This year, I'm trying to catch up on a backlog of children's and middle grade books from #librofm through their educators' ALC program.

I have pre-ordered and look forward to listening to the audiobook of The AI Con: How to Fight Big Tech’s Hype and Create the Future We Want by @emilymbender & @alex -- out May 13th
m4b-tool is a great tool - weird that it's nix or docker (dependency hell with audio libraries, I blame the libraries) but amazing that it;
1) works
2) has smart defaults
I legally own an an unencrypted audiobook copy of Tress of the Emerald Sea as an m4b and one of my kids is old enough for it but his player only does mp3s - this makes easy work of splitting to mp3s =)
With #Trump running amok and #Audible's owner #Bezos failing to impress in resisting Trump, I'm looking for an alternative, nonUSA #Audiobook source.
Anyone done background research into: #Storytel (Sweden)?
Or #Kobo (Canada with Japanese parent company)?
#JohannesLarcher, CEO of Storytel?
#Ratuken (Kobo's owner)?
#LibroFm is AIUI unfortunately currently a US company.
I note too that Storytel currently has a US company listed on its EN webpage "Storytel Audiobooks USA LLC".
@mekkaokereke and here the link to #LibroFM audiobook as to support Small Tech:
The Light Brigade by Kameron Hurley is on sale at LibroFM.
A wonderful military SF page turner without the Jingoism that turns me off many books in the sub-genre. With a strong anti capitalist core.
Told from the point of view of a grunt that finds herself unstuck in time, there is much more to a mission than just the fighting. We slowly build a picture of the world through the mosaic of Dietz's disjointed experiences.

A time travel novel so good the Science Fiction Book Review Podcast reviewed it twice and gave it a rare 5 star rating.

Weirdly, when I logged into my #Audible account this morning to start the move to #LibroFM there was a new book in my library. One I hadn’t purchased or added.
It was “Reading the Bible again for the first time”
I had the option to remove it, which I did. But why the fuck was it even in there? I’m not even Christian!
Moved over from #Audible to #LibroFM this morning.
I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before they repeat the ebook shit show with audiobooks. And now I get to support local book stores as well. Wish I knew about them sooner.
Moved from GoodReads to TheStoryGraph as well recently. And getting ebooks from Kobo and Hive (who also support local book stores).
