As much as we like to be, we aren't perfect. That goes for machines as well. As much as we'd like to be good at everything, we can't be. We each have gifts and need to use them to the best of our ability and limits; whether at home, work, or out in the world.

Former Alaska representative
❤️#Mary #Peltola announced on Monday she is running for Alaska’s US Senate seat,
handing Democrats a major recruitment victory as the party battles to reclaim the chamber’s majority in this year’s midterm elections.

Peltola, who served as Alaska’s sole House member from 2022 until her narrow defeat in 2024, is considered one of the few Democrats in the Republican-leaning state capable of mounting a 💥serious challenge to Senator Dan Sullivan, who is seeking re-election.

In her campaign announcement video, Peltola positioned herself as a political outsider focused on Alaska-specific concerns,
including the state’s fishing industry and soaring affordability problems.
She resurrected her “fish, family and freedom” slogan from previous campaigns,
pledged to introduce #term #limits for members of Congress
and said she would focus on
“fixing the rigged system in DC”.

“It’s not just that politicians in DC don’t care that we’re paying $17 a gallon for milk in rural Alaska
– they don’t even believe us,” Peltola said in the video.
“They’re more focused on their stock portfolios than our bank accounts."

The Paris-Dakar Rally has been going on in various forms across the world since 1979. If you’re interested in pushing the limits of…EVERYTHING related to racing, you should follow along. Some of the most demanding racing out there.

7) Limits and Thresholds can help. Most economists talk about all boats rising with capitalism. It's a nice thought. But what about when only 1% of the megaboats suck in all the water for their private pools? All the other boats sink. That's where we are now.

2026-01-12

6) ...should be a limit that nearly everyone should agree with. After all, if one individual has so much money they don't need to honor anyone else on the planet, is that person a good person? I heard that Jeff Bezos doesn't actually NEED Amazon customers anymore. He has amassed so much wealth that just investing it makes him more money than anyone can dream of. If someone is that divorced from the effects they can have on others, that's dangerous to civilization.

5) Whether it's capitalism, transhumanism, religious conversions, romantic partners, etc... Perhaps, to keep things safe and sane, everything needs a threshold to enforce limits. I know there are people who will disagree vehemently with this because it feels like an impingement on freedom. But, right now, the problems we're seeing in the world (and the US in particular) are because there are no limits on some key things. Should trillionaires exist? I think that...

4) I would say that eventually there is a saturation point where all the watches I make that people really need have been sold. You can count on replacements for watches that get lost, damaged or stolen for some profit going forward. But not enough to keep shareholders happy. So I am starting to think we need to ask ourselves in every operation in life: "How much is enough"? Thresholds.

2026-01-12

3) ...of years. This is not the place to argue that BTW. For people like me who aren't particularly greedy for money, the idea of ever increasing profits and gains sounds like a sickness. For example, if I make the best smart watch in the world and sell it for $50 undercutting everyone else. The demand SHOULD make my watch the best seller because the price is so low that nearly everyone can afford one. But the question: How many of these should be sold? Limits.

2026-01-12

2) Another example is businesses wanting every increasing profits because stockholders want ever increasing gains. In both of these examples, there are... questions and assumptions. First, the questions in my case are endless. There are people who disagree with my take on technology. To them, what I propose sounds either incomprehensible, insane, or just plain awful. To others who might agree, we're not even close to a human-machine merge and won't be for hundreds...

2026-01-12

1) I've come to the realization that in, perhaps, every arena and aspect of life our civilization has ignored the problem of greed, and the solution of limits and thresholds. In my case, I am a pro-technology guy. I feel like technology can solve EVERY problem. My ultimate utopia is one where humans and machines merge and we become post-human with greater powers, faster developments, and deep and enlightened insights on everything. Some, not I, would say "god-like"...

Parking on biodiversity while racing to the beach

"There are concerns extra people and cars are putting pressure on the natural environment...If we're not careful overtourism will actually destroy the character, the amenity, the natural environment, the beauty of the area that we've got to sell."

"We don't want damage to the vegetation. There's also increased risk of fire from starting underneath their vehicles so please park in the designated areas."

Well... I may finally be coming to grips with the formal definition of the limit. (The epsilon-delta definition.)

I'm not terrible at math. However, I do find some areas of it hard to grasp. The epsilon-delta definition was such an area.

Still, I'm half-convinced that most explanations that I've read about using this definition are handwavy as hell.

The sign on a Bellingen shop says it all:

DOG LIMIT Only two dogs in store at one time.

Most locals are herding more than two dogs.

And then the 'holiday season' arrives...
