#TravelPhotography from #OnThisDay in 2019 when we cruised over the #Equator in the #Pacific and got to experience the Crossing The Line Ceremony at sea. This is the event that turns pollywogs (those who haven't crossed the equator) into shellbacks, and it involves a lot of mess and some kissing of fish. King Neptune is involved too and it's all a great bit of fun.

We're on a cruise ship at sea. It's a bright day with a few puffy clouds in the sky. We're by the pool deck, on the sun deck that surrounds it, and we're looking inwards towards the swimming pool and the huge outdoors TV screen that is behind and over the far end of it. All around the sun deck there are people leaning shoulder-to-shoulder on the railings and looking down. Around the pool, set back from the water and marked off with guide ropes, more people are seated and looking in. Empty chairs are set on the near side of the pool facing out, and towards one of two hot tubs at the far end of the pool there are a few more empty chairs. We're clearly getting ready to witness a popular event.

We're on a cruise ship at sea. We're by the pool deck, on the sun deck that surrounds it, and we're looking inwards towards the swimming pool, where we can see a crowd of people are gathered to watch what's happening nearer to us. Chairs are lining this side of the pool, each populated by a crew member or passenger, all of whom look wet. There's a table behind them and beyond that, beside a hot tub there are some more chairs with three people seated: the captain of the ship, barefoot, a bearded man in a blonde wig and pink dress, and another man with a long toga and a tall crown. On the ground in front of the wet people nearer us is lots of liquid in various bright colours: greens, yellows, reds, all mixing together and running into the gaps in the tiles. The people have clearly been treated to a dunking of some sort. Left of the view we can see a large fish on a table, and a couple of crew members lifting up buckets in preparation for more pouring over the assembled people. It looks a fun, party-like atmosphere.
