Hab eben nen tollen Hashtag entdeckt... anlässlich der geplanten "Hardware-Verschrottungs-Aktion" namens #Windows11
Darum jetzt über #Linux nachdenken, anstatt #Elektroschrott zu produzieren. 👍

I’m mainly macOS and have been Mac entrenched since they came out (I have a 1984 one rotting in the attic) but I do use linux, a lot during the early 2000s, less so since but always had a linux machine running eg ubuntu and more recently Raspberry Pi OS (on my Raspberry Pi 400, my remaining linux computer until the past few weeks)
Now I’m trying out many Linuxes on a decade-old MacBook Pro A1502
None of them handle being installed to an external thunderbolt SSD very well, many of them don't work the next day.
Of the bunch I think the most usable so far is EndeavourOS (which is Arch based). I’m mostly used to Gnome but now this is KDE Plasma, which is new to me, and I think I can get used to it but it’s a bit technical in places.
Anyway the point of this post – lots has changed since the time I used to use a non Raspberry Pi OS linux, and lots hasn’t
# What hasn’t changed and bloody well should have by now
Passwords – why am I still unable to see my own fucking password, there’s nobody else in the house, my wife doesn’t care about seeing my own password if she’s passing by (she doesn’t care about computers full stop), seriously, this utterly stupid paranoia about evil people being nearby and seeing my password every single fucking time I type my password in and after several attempts, getting it probably correct, is infuriating – it’s my fucking computer, in my fucking house, there’s nobody here but me, just show me what I’m trying to fucking type in normal actual letters, it’s perfectly safe, just fucking do it – fucking do it – do it
# What has changed and where’s it gone
I can’t ‘share’ (stupid word) a folder from one machine to another – nothing is working like it used to, a decade and a half ago the linux computers I had needed a tedious and illogically confusing error-inducing page of samba configuration, then about a decade ago they all got better at that and it just worked
Now it not only doesn’t work, there’s pretty much no working samba there at all so why can’t a modern linux on a computer I own just make available a folder (or my entire home folder) to another computer I own in my own fucking house – the only way is to copy things onto a usb stick now, and this is idiotic, it was better a decade ago
