Frustration in Hollow Knight – Podcast E125

1️⃣1️⃣ Loss Aversion
Losing $100 feels worse than gaining $100 feels good.
That asymmetry drives bad policy; we overprotect against small losses and miss larger gains.
Practicing appreciation for objective benefit motivates action.

It would result in ego death reveal the sunk cost fallacies, and prevalence of mediocrity.

#LossAversion drives everything.

People in spheres of influence, who make decisions from a place of #fear, will succumb to #LossAversion and make poor-quality decisions.

They need to have faith in something, cuz they are all making #fear-based decisions rooted in #LossAversion.

#LossAversion and #fear drive the oligarchy.

It always has.

I agree he’s suffering from a terminal case of brainworms.

The only way to not spend the rest of his life in court is to back fascism.

The only way for Trump to avoid jail, is for the Supreme Court to monkey with the process and let the House declare him the winner.

#LossAversion is a powerful drug 🤷🏻‍♂️

🧵4/8 Profit Taking vs. Loss Acceptance: There is a natural human tendency to secure profits quickly and avoid realizing losses, reflecting a psychological bias known as loss aversion. This can lead to unbalanced trading decisions. #BehavioralFinance #LossAversion

Feelings about expectation-reality gaps depend on feelings about the expectation: If people like what's expected, negative changes matter more (#lossAversion), but if people dislike what's expected, positive changes matter more (#gainSeeking).

I think Hamas is more scared of anti-Hamas demonstrations in Gaza than they are of Israeli munitions, because terrorists are not normal, well-adjusted people with critical-thinking skills.

They don’t have the prerequisites for adhering to a ceasefire.

Meanwhile, the Kahanists in Netanyahu’s coalition fear the same: being out of power.

#LossAversion is the factor which guides both.

Many people have an aversion to #data and #history just like they do #therapy, or even an annual physical.

It’s #fear of confronting things that might lead to pain, disappointment, or change.

Fear, and #LossAversion, can lead to delaying valuable interventions, critical actions, or development of #FirstPrinciples.

3 new facts that contradict standard theories:
* the endowment effect is unrelated to #LossAversion for risky prospects;
* WTA & WTP are largely uncorrelated;
* WTA & WTP are related to different, independent features of risk preferences.
…results contradict the standard explanation of the #EndowmentEffect in #BehavioralEconomics that it is due to an asymmetry in the treatment of gains and losses is manifest in loss aversion for risky prospects.

When trying to make decisions about change, people are typically biased against the switch due to the concept of #LossAversion.
#DecisionMaking expert Annie Duke shares her advice on making tough calls in one’s career, suggesting to project forward, develop “kill criteria”, and get a “quitting coach." Include the word “unless” in any goal or resolutions to avoid the feeling of failure and set realistic standards.
