Some electric news from the #MBTA: Authority to solicit bids for electric locomotives for the Providence Line
universalhub.com/2026/some-ele

Thoughts on the latest #MBTA changes:
Glad to see another bus to Assembly. That area lacks connectivity to anything other than the orange line. The Volo social leagues there will benefit having a one seat ride from Longwood & Kendall for sure.
That said, existing CT2 riders lose out. More stops and no additional frequency means their commutes get longer.
I’m excited for it to be easier to get to Arlington on the 87. That’s a trip I might consider more often now.

The #MBTA has announced the next rollout of the bus network redesign, which starts April 5th. Looks like CT2 is gone, replaced with an extended 85 to Assembly in #Somerville,
The 40/50 combo in #Roslindale is getting split up, and the 350 to #Burlington gets an extra stop

I just got picked up by a ghost train inbound at Salem

no announcements, not on the maps, my app didn't know about it, not scheduled, no dwelling at stops, etc

saving me about... ten minutes?

like there is a real train 10 minutes behind us

I have no idea

Snowy scene looking off the Red Line in Boston toward Back Bay. There's a a vague hint that some buildings might be there, but it's mostly white out.

To celebrate a snow day, here's some live music on trains. I'd welcome submissions of recordings from the #MBTA. First off, a DJ set from Mumbai: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMeu...

Colohan added the #MBTA is deploying "rail-borne jet snow blowers," a.k.a. Snowzilla.

We're now going to go around all day just repeating: Rail-borne jet snow blowers!

#MBTA will operate on weekend sked tomorrow, but Mattapan line replaced by buses and all ferries canceled due to wind, but try to stay home anyway. Further adjustments might be needed Tues., T COO Ryan Colohan, not in a fleece, says.

This print advertisement documents Boston’s transit history in two eras. The upper illustration depicts the opening period of the Tremont Street Subway in 1897, recognized as the first subway in the United States. The scene is set at the Boston Public Gardens incline portal. Overhead signs read “Boston Public Gardens” and “Tremont St.” An open electric streetcar marked “Crosstown – Public Gardens” stands at the platform. The car number 1752 is visible on the front panel. The streetcar features open sides, longitudinal seating, and a motorman standing at the front controls. The platform canopy is supported by columns and lit by round globe lamps. Passengers are shown in period clothing typical of the late 19th century.

The printed headline states: “1897 – Boston Opens First U.S. Subway With Cars Using General Electric Propulsion Equipment.” The accompanying text explains that Boston built the subway to relieve downtown congestion and that the cars used General Electric propulsion systems.

In the lower right corner, a circa 1980 Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Blue Line rapid transit car is shown at an underground station. A sign above the platform reads “Escalator to Airport Bus.” The caption text notes that Hawker Siddeley built rapid transit cars equipped with General Electric motors and controls.
