Update 22 Jan
Over the last week, the network has experienced significant contraction and churn after the secession of emission payments. This was expected, with nodes running large scale farming operations and modified code suddenly being pulled from the network. Due to the sudden drop, the replication processes in nodes are triggering, causing a spike in network traffic.

Update 18 December

Update 11 Dec
We are now on the final stretch of the end of year missions. There are three important aspects that are worth mentioning:
- New node release. Node operators must update by 16 Dec.
- A Merkle element is included in the new release for 95% reduced fees.
- Next week will be the final dev blog and company update of the year.

Alongside the continuing dialogue concerning emissions, there have been some questions raised concerning the automatic node upgrade work stream that’s currently underway. As we hope you already appreciate, the team are aiming to get to a stage, as soon as is feasible, where MaidSafe is no longer having to do upgrades (automatic or otherwise).

Update 30 October
Work is continuing rapidly on several fronts, first and foremost investigating the cause of download failures reported by the community.
We've successfully implemented paymaster for uploads in Dave (GUI front end).
Plus, we’re making good progress with the Merkle tree transaction verification (a.k.a. gas fees minimisation) integration.

This week we’ve been finalising plans to polish several network features to make them business-ready, including allowing people to hold ANT through paymasters without needing separate ETH for gas, and enabling devs to code their apps in such a way that the upload fees can be funded for the user — so plenty of flexibility for different business models. We’re including paymasters within Dave, to prove the solution out.

Lots going on behind the scenes, with the team laser-focused on reducing gas fees for uploads as far as we possibly can. We’re pursuing some promising ideas and have started coding them up, but obviously they will need thorough testing before they’re ready to go live.

This week we’ve continued our focus on producing something fun for you all to play with, both cos you’re ace and also to raise the profile of the project as the Impossible Futures competition reaches its conclusion.
Our streaming video proof-of-concept is nearing completion, with plans to release a client update including streaming and several CLI improvements shortly.

It’s all action in the ant hill and we should have new releases of the client and Dave (GUI front end) ready next week. The former will allow for streaming uploads and partial streaming of downloads.

After months of building, our Impossible Futures finalists are putting the final touches to their apps on the Autonomi Network, ready for judges to start exploring every feature and diving deep into what makes these projects special.

Update 14 August
The team has done a lot more work on streaming self-encryption to handle very large files with great results so far.
We’re currently doing a deep dive into network data types and client constructed data types and looking to see what we can unify and simplify to improve the developer experience.
Network testing is ongoing with the recent work to ensure that all nodes are behaving.
Update 7 August
Testing and monitoring continues apace and the good news is the network seems more stable. Uploads and downloads are working, and we can’t find any data loss. App developers are reporting a better experience overall although there are still some questions around scratchpads and pointers that we’re looking into.

The Computer Networks Group researches and develops distributed infrastructure for secure communication and computation at all levels of the networking stack. Our past activities include work on sensor networks, autonomic operations of networks, bio- and chemically-inspired networking, as well as mobile code. Currently our main focus is on survivable computing.
The aim of the P2P Basel workshop is to bring together researchers and software builders to share insights and collaborate towards the sound and sustainable development of efficient eventually-consistent (offline-first) peer-to-peer systems. Examples of related projects of interest are Secure #Scuttlebutt , DAT/Hypercore , Cabal , #Tox, BitMessage , #IPFS , Socket Supply co., #OrbitDB , Earthstar , Willow , #Nostr , #Holochain , #P2Panda , #GNUnet , #Hyphanet , #Freenet , #Zeronet , #Retroshare , #NextGraph , #Web3 , #serverless , #maidsafe , #matrix , Other P2P projects that are based on stronger consistency models, such as Mass Market are also of interest.
This is brilliant! Over the past decade I've seen numerous discussions about #DNS on the #Autonomi peer-to-peer network (formerly #MaidSafe / #SafeNetwork).
Nobody mentioned this idea until MaidSafe founder David Irvine this week.

Update 10 July
We continue working on the next release, scheduled for next week, which will be ready for the Impossible Futures building phase. The upcoming version of Autonomi will integrate the latest libp2p, introduce a simplified FIFO cache, eliminate a ‘log bomb’, and remove the external address manager.

Update 3 June
The next Autonomi update, planned for 2 weeks, should include an updated version of rust-libp2p which addresses some of the changes around reachability that we’ve been asking for, so it’s a very welcome development. Over the next few days we’ll be testing this new version to see whether it comes closer to meeting our requirements, or if we might still need to fork some parts of the code base.
