📍🗺️ #MapMonday: Laufenburg gibt’s doppelt – in 🇩🇪 & 🇨🇭.

For this I dived into the map collections of @vuamsterdam and found this peculiar object. A set of aerial photos made by the K.L.M. (= Dutch Royal Airlines) for promotional ends. Questioning whether the drawn aeroplane on the envelope represents reality the friendly staff of Museum answered me that indeed it does. The picture (2) they sent me confirms that it is a C.II plane and this was the method to take aerial photos in the 1920s and 1930s. Amazing!

For #MapMonday here's a Sanborn Map extract showing part of Denise Cross's #OnePlaceStudy of #Granville, Washington County, New York. Denise is focussing on early settlers and residents up to about 1850, with @wikitree.bsky.social at www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:G...

'Nice things don’t happen in storybooks. 'Or when they do happen, something bad happens next. Because otherwise the story would be boring, and no one would read it.' ~ Holly Black, The Cruel Prince

Is there anyone who has time to read on mondays? I think it's the day I get the least reading time.

Our #OnePlaceStudies blogging and social media prompt🔗 for February is #OnePlaceGeology. Most of the land in Martin White's West Lulworth OPS🔗 in #Dorset sits on chalk from the Cretaceous period. The coast around Durdle Door though is—geologically and visually— spectacularly different! #MapMonday

West Lulworth One-Place Study.
Image: An extract from a geological map showing the various types of bedrock around the village of West Lulworth on the coast of Southern England. A green shading shows that chalk dominates the land and parts of the coastline here, with other, later formations (shaded in purple and in brown) on some of the higher ground inland. The short stretch of coastline south of the village however, in which the famous Lulworth Cove is situated, is geologically far more complex with tightly packed bands of several different types of rock.

This colourful, and rather unknown, map of the Dutch province of Noord-Holland is my pick. It shows spots where the population grew (brownish) and declined (blueish) between 1937 and 1939.

❎ Ordinance Survey ✅ Ordnance Survey What’s in a name? The answer, as OS History explains, lies in the origins of this agency as a provider of maps for military purposes under Britain’s Board of Ordnance. Discover the story behind the maps many of us love to use for #OnePlaceStudies on #MapMonday.

'You belonged in the library, as much as any book.' ~ Margaret Rogerson, Sorcery of Thorns

How I would love to visit the magical libraries from Sorcery of Thorns!
An adventurous, enchanting story, one of my favourite fantasy standalones, and with one of the best side characters, Silas 🤍

Narelle Borrott’s Parish of Thalaba One-Place Study looks at a place in the Upper Hunter Valley, New South Wales, #Australia, colonised by Britons from the 1830s. Narelle hopes to find out how the settlers, with widely differing backgrounds, worked together as a community. #OnePlaceStudy #MapMonday
