#MarkethingMonday 6/23: Five things your readers would hate about your world.

I'm realizing more and more that readers who love the average shifter romance books will actually hate my Wolf shifter series.

Because it goes against some tropes. So I had fun making a meme of that, and I also hope that it might make you more likely to try my Wolves.

No Instalove.
Too much adventure.
Not enough spice.

Really, this isn’t a shifter world at all!

Make it so your target audience will laugh and decided that yes, your world is perfect for them.

Five things your readers would hate about your MC.

Ume
1. She intellectualizes pain.
2. She lets others lead emotionally.
3. She can sound superior without meaning to.
4. She avoids hard decisions until cornered.
5. Her morality is pragmatic, not pure.

* Bonus: she smokes.

Maybe she is too much into esoteric spheres and she has unique martial arts skills that could lead to envy. Even worse she isn‘t much of a tradwife - quite contrary.

Ben McMullen really cares to much about others.

He actually treats women as equals.

He runs away instead of fighting on after getting injured. What a hero, huh?

He loses his family heirloom. Really, can't even take care of his things.

He doesn't even smell the poison he's fed. ('cause colloidal silver doesn't have a smell).

Five things your readers would hate about your MC.

- Taking to Harry Galahad will give you instant depression.
- He moans about the loss of his wife, mostly in silence to himself, but still, he does. And you have to read that!
- He is incapable of being a captain - he knows, you know, EVERYBODY knows. But still, this is a whole book about it.
- Knight in shining armour he isn't. Everybody else saves the day. Shouldn't it be the MC who does that? Lazy brat!
- He is useless at romance. Which gets even worse when he falls in love. Honestly, it is like watching a very slow trainwreck with nothing you can do against it.

If you want to suffer with him, anyway:

Tell us about five things your readers would hate about your antagonist.

I picked A Wolf's Quest again, because it really makes the most sense (and you can all read it for free).

So things to hate about Theo:

He’s not your nice grandpa.
He’s really strict about his rules.
He gave away his dogs.
His barn is a mess.
He poisons dinner guests.

Yup. All true.

@joewynne Hahaha, thank you. I loved that prompt. 😆
I think @kmherkes did it first and @Firlefanz now invented the hashtag #MarkethingMonday to help fellow authors marketing their stuff without it feeling like the chore of marketing.

#MarkethingMonday What are 5 things to hate about #KonbiniIdol

1. Uses Japanese names in Japanese format - family name first.
2. Uses Japanese honorifics (I don't know some people hate them)
3. Characters have multiple names, like real people.
5. Not a queer fairytail. SI, unlifeing, homo/transphobia, and bullying are referenced and may appear. Not story-centric but realistic. Trigger warned, but who reads those (me)

#MarkethingMonday What are 5 things to hate about #HeraldPetrel ?

* You call the main character "Galahad" and then he is like...never actually saving the day? He's like...dunno... a Non-Action Hero? That's false advertising!

* It says #SciFi but there aren't any robots? And no sentient ship AI?? WTF?

* TOO WOKE!!!! Shoves a queer character into your face every few chapters. Some of them are even couples *yuck* And all that tolerance for all species and cultures is just nauseating!

* Too straight!!! There is a romance between the male MC and a female really-also-the-MC and I don't care if you say he's #demisexual and his best friend is #aromantic, you have no rights to file it in the #LGBTIAQ+ category!

* But we need capitalism! It isn't the dystopian scenario you are describing as its logical endpoint. Capitalism good. How dare you challenging my belief in capitalism!

#MarkethingMonday 6/2: What are five things to hate about your book?

For this I picked the first Wolf book cover, but the things to hate are true for the entire series.

For me, this fits so well because my Wolf Shifter tales do not run along some of the genres most common tropes. Which means I need to reach readers who love the idea of shifting but hate some of those common tropes.

Promo image for my Wolves of the South wolf shifter series. It has a blue/purple gradient as a background and shows the cover of A Wolf's Quest. There are two people on the cover, a young man with sandy hair wearing a gray t-shirt and a young woman with shoulder-length brown hair wearing a purple dress. Behind them, a huge full moos dominates the sky. Below the title we see a simple house in a forest, with two wolves loitering around.

The text reads:

Header: 5 Things to Hate about my Wolves
List:
- No ripped bodies or bodices
- They close the bedroom door in your face!
- A total lack of romance drama or love triangles.
- All they do is shift into wolves?
- And where are the Alphas?!

Book 1 - A Wolf's Quest - is free in all stores.
