Glad it’s warm and not too windy up here because the zipper on my jacket blew. Now I’m surviving on stacked layers.

Skiing on Mondays is nice. So quiet!
Banff Sunshine Village just shared this photo of just how close the #JasperFire got to Marmot Basin. They said Marmot will reopen this winter.
Looking at satellite imagery from August 11th around Jasper and you can see how close the fire came to Marmot Basin. Looks like the road up acted as a bit of firebreak.
Jasper wildfire largest in park history, #MarmotBasin 'unaffected' | Edmonton Journal https://edmontonjournal.com/news/local-news/jasper-wildfire-marmot-basin-update-saturday “The fire appears to have largely spared Marmot Basin as well as a nearby horse stable and #gondola.
Brian Rode with the resort told Postmedia that Marmot Basin’s insurer contracted a private firefighting group to helicopter in and inspect the facility which was found to be largely undamaged.” #JasperFire #Jasper #SkiMarmot
Reported today:
> Marmot Basin’s vice-president of marketing Brian Rode confirmed to Postmedia Saturday that the popular ski resort is “unaffected” by the wildfire, adding “all of our facilities, our lifts and everything are completely intact.”
View from the top of Knob Chair has changed a bit. That’s the old chair down below. Also looks like patrol will get a really nice hut … next year.
Ahhhh, I missed this place!
I feel dirty. I just booked paid parking at Marmot Basin to ensure I have a spot when I drive up Saturday morning. With likely around 80cm of snow in the last few days I expect it could be busy.
Edit: For reference I was volunteer ski patrol for over 20 years there so the advent of paid parking is a bit of a shock given the space they turned over to it is where we parked for decades for free.

Things I like to see on a ski hill webcam in the weeks before opening!
Had a great day at #MarmotBasin in #Jasper today. Sunny skies, not too cold. I’m impressed with the work patrol and avalanche control put into opening new terrain. I’ve skied there for over three decades and never thought I’d see Marmot 2 open for turns.
I’ve skied Marmot Basin in Jasper since I was kid, long long ago. My parents were part of the volunteer patrol there as was I for 20 years. They have a great paid safety team with excellent leadership so if you know anyone interested they have a hiring clinic coming up in April.

One feature I love on my iPad is the photos widget that shows me various good pictures from my library… except it loves to torment with this picture from February 2019, which is a great picture that I love of another patroller on the mountain. Except when I skied down after this I tore my MCL, the second in a string of 2019 events that lead me to say my 2020 started a year early.
Wow. Marmot Basin just opened Eagle’s East. I think that means most if not all lift accessible runs are now open. That's incredibly early but I was up there last weekend and the conditions are really good for this early in the season.
