On 22 January 1979, the “winter of discontent” peaked as a day of action was held by public sector in the UK and 1.5 million workers struck against pay restraint in the high inflation. the largest stoppage of labour since the 1926 .
Many workers stayed on beyond that day and eventually won big pay increases, like refuse workers and gravediggers.
