Meine bevorzugte Cloudlösung für die Verwaltung von einem #Verein, #easyVerein rollt gerade langsam eine #Matrix-basierte Chatlösung aus. Habe leider noch keinen Zugriff und kann mir das nicht genauer anschauen, aber bin sehr gespannt, wie das technisch umgesetzt ist (Was ist das für ein Client? Sind die Server/Zugangsdaten irgendwo sichtbar, so dass man sich mit 3rd Party Clients verbinden kann?)

Using a self-hosted Synapse server as my homeserver. It's a bit crusty at the moment; a lot of of the features don't seem to work. But at least I'm in the door now so to speak.

Where can I find some active spaces and rooms to get a feel for what Matrix is like?

I'm approaching it as a Discord alternative. A space for friends and casual aquaintences to hang out, riff on common interests and games, discuss fan theories around movies, shows, and books, share local news and happenings... stuff like that.

Is that how you're using it? Or is its fort`e more 1:1 like Signal. Or do folks mostly treat it like Telegram and use it to hype shitcoins?

I guess I don't really know what Matrix is all about, on a social and practical level.

Alongside exploring Fediverse options and setting up my own Mastodon and Sharkey instances, I have also been looking into messaging options (not that I have anyone to test them with, as my friends and family aren't interested 😂). @ondrejkolin Welcome 🙂 Actually, #Matrix was the first option I considered, but 3 things changed my mind: 1) simplicity of deployment; 2) no federation by design; 3) other possible use cases of Nextcloud. (Also missing E2EE is not an issue as I run my own instance.)

@lizmat yeah, irclogs solve one of the issues with irc.

Sadly, lots of people don't care much for it anyway. I guess because it's non-trivial to start using, and doesn't work well asynchronously and cross-device? 🤷

I *wish* #matrix and #element would be an easy choice, but there seem to be too many issues and incompatibilities with the clients.

Maybe there's a #fediverse-based solution that could be set up...
