And that probably means to do some kind of re-Introduction at some point. I am not ready just yet for it though. I feel I first need to unlearn a whole bunch of shitty behaviours & habits from I've acquired over time to re-learn when I first fell in love with 25 years ago.

Like I was saying ... Start small, build from there. One toot at a time.

‘Mastodon will continue as a niche community and it will have lots of happy users’ 👉🏻 justingarrison.com/blog/2023-0

Insightful blog post by @jgarr, although I am not too sure what else is there to achieve, if you already have a community of happy users.

I know a whole bunch of out there that a) aren't communities, rather the opposite, and b) their end-users are everything, but happy 🤔

The African community is clearly underrepresented on high-quality stock photography platforms, “The Missing Assets” by Eldad Nutakor aims to fix that by providing beautiful and genuine photography, free from the stereotypes you typically see on other platforms.

‘As long as we rely on social-media sites to curate what we read, we allow them to control what we read, and their interests are not our interests’ 👉🏻 archive.is/85BTT

I’m going to keep coming back and refer to this fine piece every time folks ask me about what RSS newsfeeds are all about. Taking back control of and head back to surely is quite a conversation starter for those who *still* care 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻

Oooh, look at that! First we had:

FOMO = Fear Of Missing Out & then
JOMO = Joy Of Missing Out

And now, apparently, we seem to have:

FOLO = Fear Of Logging Off

I guess I know *now* the concept to describe why I am not online vast majority of the time, right? 👇🏻

JOLO = Joy of Logging Off 🤯

PS. Oooh, did I also mention I am a *huge* fan of JOMO? 😍👍🏻

@MikeElgan @bgrinter Alas, Notes is not Google Plus, is it? I, too, wish plenty of the really nice features from G+ would have ended up in plenty of other . Alas, that's not the case, as we've seen with the example mentioned earlier from @edbott

Surely, in 2023, these new media tools could do so much better with something that's been with us for 2 decades already 🤔

@teledyn I am not surprised at all. I went through a similar experience when I decided to move on late last year. In fact, as a result, I reflected about it on this other post 👉🏻 mastodon.social/@elsua/1095135 to remind me of the difference between building an audience vs. nurturing a community. And how I need to choose wisely. It's why I have stayed away from other like Post, Notes, etc. etc.

Oooh, and in the context of that particular presentation on ‘The A.I. Dilemma’ by Tristan Harris & Aza Raskin, here's another shorter video (16m.) I can recommend watching 👉🏻 youtu.be/ZRrguMdzXBw

It's worth while taking a look into it in order to understand better where we've been with and where we *already* are (with ), but perhaps a tad amplified on a completely different scale RE:

After reading this piece 👉🏻 bit.ly/3ZSkPiN on Substack's attempt to become the 'next Twitter' with 'Notes', my first initial thought was just, 'Meh! No, thanks! Learned my lessons through the hard way with different over the last two decades' 😤😠🤬

Quite happy with the and for that matter, thank you very much! 😍👍🏻

@jtonline Well, in a way, it is, matey! Everyone else from my long-standing networks (at least, vast majority) is hanging out elsewhere on any of those . I just couldn't bear anymore the toxicity, the stupidity, the manipulation, so I decided to go & hide over here 😉

And, now, after several months using Mastodon, my level of tolerance for is literally zero. Including & the virtual signalling going on in there 🤯

Note to self: You need to shake off that bad practice, acquired via , about posting stuff away like there’s no tomorrow.

Things are different here. In the true nature of & , the pace, the intent, the effort are all taking their own course.

Sometimes, just one idea, one thought, one invitation for a potential conversation, perhaps not even, is more than enough.

Build, nurture & sustain for the long-term… 15 / 20 years from now …

This is going to sound a bit weird, but I've just spent about 30 minutes over at Twitter, going through my Twitter Lists, no algorithms involved, and my head just went 🤯

I can no longer relate to *any* of what's been tweeted about, nor relate to the folks behind those tweets I have been following for over 16 years! 🤯🤯

I guess my time weaning off Twitter is now complete! 🤯🤯🤯

P.S. Deleted my Twitter Lists from my RSS newsfeed reader. Moving on … to whatever next 😁😎👍🏻

@stuartmcintyre Oooh, absolutely, Stuart! Well said! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Reflecting further on it though, I am wondering whether such glorious phrase could be applied to a specific context: i.e. pioneers and that urging need to bond and belong, as social creatures we all are, during the initial path of a journey.

I suspect there is something to it along those lines, because I just don't see that kind of belonging nowadays when using (heavily mediated) 🤔

@jessamyn RE: 'It's a treasure' < YES!!! And, if I may add, it's a treasure we've taken for granted for far too long!

In my own case, never again. It's taken me two decades to realise about that, so not going to let that go that easily again not matter how luring or attractive may become, again, if at all.

If you could only read one blog post today that will have a significant impact in terms of how you'll view both relationships & friendships from here onwards, look no other piece than this one 👉🏻 psychologytoday.com/us/blog/ev by @dweinberger featuring @judell.

'Intermittent friends bound together intimately.' 🤯 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Now, *that* folks is what & did to us all but took away just as fast! 😤

Things that make special (to me): That heartwarming feeling when you fave a toot from someone in your network, only then to receive a lovely SMS from that same contact saying 'Hi!' and ending up in a lovely catch-up chat👌🏻😍

Oh, gosh, I forgot when was the last time I had one of those exchanges in .

It must have been over a decade ago, when lost the 'Social' tidbit to then just become that: Media (Unregulated) 😁😎👍🏻

With the recent outages happening at mastodon.social, a few folks asked me whether I'm ready to head back to . My answer: No, not likely! 😁👍🏻

You see? It's pretty much like when I started over 15 years ago: once you see the light, there's no way back! 😎👍🏻

There're far too many things I heart to bits in just to give it up because of an outage or two. I've learned to while I wait for it to come back up.

I'm no longer in that frenzied hurry to try to keep up 😤

@lee 😊👍🏻 Hope other folks may join us as well, specially, since you can have up to 5 pinned toots, it doesn't harm sharing a link to the video you folks put together.

Like I said, it's just superb and worth while pinning it for others to dive into. And not only applicable to Twitter, but all other as well.

The music concerts analogy is just a brilliant idea! 🤯
