Title: A Farmhouse in Ayashi, Miyagi Prefecture, in Autumn (1946)

Artist: Hasui Kawase

japan-guide.com/blog/koyo24/24 #ShinHanga #Art #Showa #HasuiKawase #Autumn #Ayashi #MiyagiPrefecture #Japan

Afternoon sun warms a rural farm in autumn. A pair of thatched roof buildings box in a wide yard, where two white chickens scratch and peck the dirt. Persimmons and daikon are hung up on poles over entranceways, drying in the sun. On the right, stacks of firewood have been laid in for the coming cold weather. Between the buildings and beyond the yard, there is a glimpse of open fields and a line of trees, their leaves rusting brown with the season. A few clouds hug the horizon, but the sky above is clear and blue

The background is a photo of what look like piano strings in alternating yellow and beige colors. The album title appears multiple times overlapping each other. The top is in yellow, the next is in blue, and it follow a few more times in blue and white. The lowest text is progressively blurred, perhaps as a way of showing them vibrating by their proximity to the piano strings being played.

Kikuchi seems to have a few uses of a Flexatone throughout her albums 🙂 🎵

Currently listening to FLASHINGS (1981)

I think these represent the words I attempted to search for: "...spooky glissando effects."

Glissando: "a continuous slide upward or downward between two notes." 🙂

Reverse cover art of album Flying Beagle by Himiko Kikuchi. It shows a beagle sitting on what looks like a white, football-shaped buoy with a red logo partially obscured by the paws of the dog. The beagle is shows in half-profile turned toward its left and looking upward, with mouth partially open and tongue slightly extended. It appears content. The beagle has white, brown, and black fur. The background shows a dark foreground under a slightly light, partly cloudy sky (either sunset or sunrise, it is unclear).

Text on the right side shows the track listings. Text in the lower-left shows the bar code and other unreadable fine print, in a mix of English and Japanese.

The right side of the album has an obi strip--"a piece of paper wrapped around the spine of Japanese CDs, DVDs, movies, or books sometimes referred to as a "spine card"." The reverse of this one is dark-pink and lists the track names in Japanese. It is wrapped from bottom-to-top around the outside of the album, is ~5cm thick, and partially obscures the track listings on the right side of the album.

Listening to Sendai, Japan-born Himiko Kikuchi's 1987 album FLYING BEAGLE on the CBS/Sony labels 🎶🎹🎸🎷🎧 💜

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Himiko_K

Cover art for album Flying Beagle. It shows the half-profile of a beagle turned toward its right and looking to its left, with its mouth partially open and its tongue slightly sticking out. The beagle is light-brown, white, and black. Behind the beagle is a darkened outdoor scene under a slightly bright sky (either sunrise or sunset, it is not clear).

Text, upper-left: Himiko Kikuchi (yellow, serif block letters, with the bottom of each letter within each word getting progressively shorter, so it has an "upside-down steps" look.

Text, upper-right: Flying Beagle (white color, otherwise same style as left side)

The left side of the album has an obi strip--"a piece of paper wrapped around the spine of Japanese CDs, DVDs, movies, or books sometimes referred to as a "spine card"." The front of this one is dark pink and has text mostly in Japanese but also lists in English tjhe text the artist and album name. It is wrapped from bottom-to-top around the outside of the album, is ~5cm thick, and partially obscures the text at the top-left.
