Bright red bird is perched on the elm sapling branch next to the crocheted little birds’ peanut basket upcycled from flimsy supermarket produce bags. He’s facing right toward the basket, but his head is turned to look this way as if to say “thanks” which warms my heart. His orange beaks are slightly ajar as he makes the metallic “chip, chip” sound. It almost looks like he’s smiling at us. The elm leaves above him and the wooden fence behind are wet from the drizzle.

Mr. Cardinal is playing peek-a-boo in the apple tree.

Mr Cardinal is getting braver. He came to the railing to ask for more peanuts! *squee*

He was a bit closer to the kitchen door, but moved back when I took out the phone to take a pic. But at least he didn’t flee like he used to!

Yesterday, I took the big #lemonTree outside, and #MrCardinal came to see!

The lemon tree is grown from a seed, and will be 18 this June. She’s been flowering, but no fruit. I painstakingly remove the thorns for the sake of wildlife safety.

The same birdbath scene. But all of a sudden, the cardinal took to the air, flapping his red wings fast and flying toward us. There’s a motion blur on his fanned-open wings, which look blurry but pretty, lit in the sun. The sparrow looks like he’s ducking slightly, also blurry.

Bright red cardinal perched on the birdbath in my flowerbed, looking toward the snow-covered lawn.

This birdbath is a large, terracotta colored, plastic plant tray on the black wire cube shelf in the back of the flowerbed by the wooden fence.

There are tall daisy stems with brown dry leaves in the foreground, now covered with scoops of snow. I leave some dead plants for wildlife until spring when some new green plants emerge. Besides, they all look lovely to me.
