Dear Colleagues,
I am excited to let you know about a comprehensive course on adult ADHD
that is going live again this fall! “What is Adult ADHD, Anyways?”
<edu.springadv.com/courses/what>is a 6-credit CE
course delivered over two days, offering a deep dive into the diagnosis
and treatment of adults living with ADHD.

In this course, the presenter will explore many of the challenges adults
with ADHD face and share real-life examples of coping strategies for
this often painful condition. This hybrid course was previously taught
in the Spring of 2024, so videos from that session are already
available. We’re offering live presentations again this fall to give
those who enjoy live interaction another opportunity to engage in this
rich learning experience.

Your registration provides access to both the live events and the
recorded videos for immediate viewing. Please see the details below for
more information, and feel free to reply to this email

*Program content description: *

Chances are, you have encountered someone with adult ADHD (attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder) in your practice. Research shows that
adult ADHD is likely underdiagnosed and/or misdiagnosed and that these
folx do not have the support that they need to navigate the unique
challenges that come with adult ADHD (Chung et al., 2019).

Additionally, many adults have also developed compensatory strategies
that end up masking their challenges (Canela et al., 2017), which means
that we, as counselors, have an ethical responsibility to better
understand the complexities and nuances of adult ADHD. It is critical to
understand (not just on paper, but in practice) how the diagnostic
criteria for adult ADHD translate into the therapy room when you are
sitting with someone who is struggling. Adult ADHD goes beyond the
symptoms described in the DSM, and in fact, research suggests that
additional challenges, such as frequent emotional dysregulation, should
be considered when assessing and diagnosing adult ADHD (Soler-Gutiérrez
et al., 2023).

This presentation will explore how to “translate” the diagnostic
criteria for adult ADHD into the real world, assessment tools for adult
ADHD, unique challenges associated with adult ADHD that are often missed
in the diagnostic criteria, factors that influence underdiagnosis and
misdiagnosis, neurodivergent-affirming interventions to support
individuals with adult ADHD, and how intersectionality impacts
individuals with adult ADHD.

Curriculum

The word psychotherapy means “care of the soul” (from the Greek psyche + therapeia). While the history of psychotherapy includes theorists and practitioners with a bias against spirituality and religion, there have always been those who found effective ways to include spiritual wisdom in psychotherapeutic work. In recent years, there has been an outpouring of research and instruction in spiritually integrated psychotherapy, and empirical evidence demonstrating the therapeutic efficacy of attending to clients’ spiritual beliefs and practices.

The ACPE SIP Curriculum draws upon diverse spiritual traditions and psychological research to provide practical, usable resources to help therapists integrate spirituality into their work. It teaches therapists how to elicit and make therapeutic use of their clients’ spiritual perspectives and how to make ethically appropriate use of their own spiritual perspectives.

Beginning January 1, 2023, the curriculum will consist of two levels of training, with each level including 5 3-hour continuing education courses.

Level 1 Course Titles & Contact Hours

1.1 Foundations and Ethics of Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy 3

1.2 Developing Spiritual Conversations in Psychotherapy 3

1.3 Spiritual Assessment 3

1.4 Spiritual Interventions: Working with Spiritual Resources, Part 1 3

1.5 Spiritual Interventions: Working with Spiritual Struggles 3

Level 1 Contact Hour Total: 15

Level 2 Course Titles

2.1 Spiritual Interventions: Working with Spiritual Resources, Part 2 3

2.2 Spiritual Interventions: Working with Harmful Spirituality and Religion 3

2.3 Spirituality and Belief System of the Therapist 3

2.4 Spiritually Integrated Case Conceptualization, Part 1 3

2.5 Spiritually Integrated Case Conceptualization, Part 2 3

Level 2 Contact Hour Total: 15

The courses draw upon multiple modes of teaching and learning, including:

- interactive seminars;
- role plays;
- small group work; and case illustrations and case conceptualization.

Subject: Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy (SIP) upcoming Training Info

Greetings colleagues,

Once again, I am writing this informational email to all who are on the ACPE SIP Training interest list. (I attempted to remove emails of those who have previously registered for SIP training, but I may have missed you.)

I am both informing you about my upcoming training and asking for your help to spread the word.

I am presently recruiting for a SIP training (Levels 1 and 2).

Level 1 begins May 4 and ends May 18.

Level 2 begins June 1 and ends June 15.

I have attached a flyer with specific details.

See the flyer for details on CEUs including for several licensure categories in New York.

If you are interested in this particular training, please let me know soon. There is a limit on the number of registrations.

If you are interested, but this schedule does not work for you, more trainings can be found by following this link:

acpe.edu/education/psychothera

Even if you are not interested in SIP or if it is not quite right for you, please pass the information on to anyone who might be interested.

It is important that participants in SIP be actively engaged in some clinical practice. SIP Training is primarily for those engaged in psychotherapy, but in certain cases, chaplains who do counseling in their work also may benefit.

If you are looking for training in pastoral care rather than psychotherapy, check this link for details:

acpe.edu/education/psychothera

The first step towards registering for my SIP training will be a brief Zoom conversation with me. This is primarily to make sure that what you are seeking and what the program offers are compatible.

Thanks so much for your interest in SIP and for helping to pass the word along.

This couldn't be some thinly-veiled #racism going on under the guise of our #housingCrisis?

> In the statements, Butler said the deadline change was because of "significant international growth during our Fall intake." She said the change was communicated to international students "more than eight weeks prior"

> Processing times for study permits are currently listed as 10 weeks on the federal government website.

#nbcc knew applications were talking at least 10 weeks, and moved their deadline to 8.

So, #introduction time!

Not from around here, but I have been in #Moncton since August, and I am loving #NewBrunswick - and the #Maritimes - so far.

#LGBTQ and, as it says on my bio, when I am not studying #QualityAssurance testing at #NBCC or working as a Web Developer (mainly with #Javascript #Nextjs #Python and #AWS), I write fanfiction to some fandoms which shall not be named here.

I am 100% certain that the internet was made by #cats (and for #CatVideos and #CatsGIFs...).
