another day on the fireground, back at the beni one and running the show
lots of massive big trees down on the talbragar river that had to be knocked down. absolute units. it was sad to see. there is a sydney strike team visiting and they put in a huge effort with the local teams. looks like that's now at patrol which is amazing!
when we were leaving the shed this morning we did see a little juvenile kookaburra that may have been blown out of its nest. it could fly, just not really well. it was gone when we got back so hopefully it got home

got a local job today. a transformer on a pole that runs pivot irrigation had an issue and started a grass fire
pole was alight, paddocks were alight when we got there. there was a firebird (small bomber) at the airport that was already overhead when we got there that dropped it's water on the head and pulled it up
then a chopper with a bucket showed up and dropped that on the pole. the farmer was running around it with a tractor and plough, then we ended up with 6 appliances on scene knocking the rest down
all in all it was a great response. being close to town and having aircraft available (which imo was just lucky timing) really helped up. as did our awesome brigades!
this fire is finally under control! it's been a long week since it started, with crews coming from greater sydney and all around to help fight it
massive effort by all. if you know a firey, make sure you thank em!

Today, AFAC News released the Bushfire Seasonal Outlook for Summer. Northern and Central parts of NSW are carrying high grass fuel loads and are entering summer drier than normal, with no clear indication of increased rainfall to ease conditions.
These areas are likely to face an increased risk of fast-moving, intense grass and forest fires. In central and southern NSW, ongoing dry conditions on the western slopes of the ranges have led to significant underlying dryness in some forested areas. If rain continues to miss these areas, the risk of difficult-to-control fires will increase through summer.
If you live, work, or travel through bush fire-prone areas, ensure you are prepared. Review and discuss your bush fire survival plan so you know what to do if threatened by fires.
