Get Your Dopamine On
I'm one-chili neurospicy, like it says on the tin. I'm an HSP: highly-sensitive person. Which doesn't mean I'm a delicate fucking flower, except yes. Sort of.
Sustained auditory or *visual noise makes my teeth itch. I can deal with it, but the longer the exposure, the more stressful it gets. It's why I'm deeply, deeply uncomfortable cooking when the kitchen is a mess. And cooking is my art form. It's been a source of joy for most of my adult life. Being an HSP is also why I find bringing order out of chaos immensely satisfying.
As I was cleaning the kitchen this morning and thinking anxiously about dumpster fires, I wasn't getting my dopamine on. I was mentally denigrating the importance of what I was doing instead of something more active, and external.
No. Just no. Attending to my own needs, maintaining the tools of my art, reclaiming what's mine, and yours, and every person's: the right to joy, to love, to sharing nourishment of body and soul. I fucking get to do that. So do you. So. Do. You.
*eg: clashing colors, busy patterns, an untidy room, crowds
