Also at #Norham, the parish church is interesting*. I went in to see what these windows are like from the inside, and noticed the light through the glass was colouring the walls and floor. It didn't photograph very well.

(* It was built in the 12th century, replacing an earlier church. Although it's been substantially rebuilt over the centuries, there are some bits of the original building, including this wall. (I assume the glass has been replaced). There is also this odd pillar made from Anglo-Saxon stones stuck together.)

Part of a stone wall with a s row of five small arched windows containing leadlight glass. Each window has narrow columns on each side and decorative border around arch. At the bottom, the top of a arched door is viisible.

The windows from inside. The wall is dark and each window is set deep in the wall.
The sun is behind the windows but due to the brightness, it's hard to make out the pictures. A lot of colours and shapes (the right most one has an oval around something with a lot of red and a circle below, the next two have an X top and bottom, and in the middle a white shield on a red circle.
The coloured light shines on the window sills and surrounds. The nearest is a soft purple. The next three are a yellow-orange. The next tone has shades of purple and mauve.

A stone wall, constructed from squared blocks. The surface has come away on much of the wall, leaving an irregular surface.
At the base of the wall, a small arched doorway leads down into the dark. Above and to one side, is a narrow, arched window, also dark.

Norham Castle, Northumberland. On the Scottish/English border. It has changed hands a few times.

It was built for a bishop, I believe. Yes. a Bishop of Durham in the early 12th century. It was apparently besieged 13 times. Also, it's very cool.
