I found another castle, at #Lincoln .

A Norman motte & baley castle, with two mottes. First built in 1068.

A castle gate built of stone. An arched entrance leadsinto a passage where part of another arch is visible at the other end, along with a small black wooden hut. Above the arch are two small, protruding round chambers with small rectangular openings.A narrow stone wall leads up a grassy hill, encircled by stone walls. The wall continues and in the background it rises up a second grassy hill to a round narrow tower wiht a flag on top.
Below the hills is a large building built of red brick (1840s prison) with lots of tiny windows along one wall. The near wall has a column of bow-shapped windows.
In the background, rising above the other buildings, is the tower of a cathedral, with narrow fancy winwods, elabroate stonework and lots of point bits on top

Muness Castle is a late 16th century tower house on #Unst, the northmost island of #Shetland.

(I miss Shetland, but it's a long way away from Tasmania. Although closer than London.)

Two walls of a large room. The wall are now grey stone, but were originally covered some sort of plaster The roof is long gone. Near the top of the walls is a row of square holes. Possibly where the rafters of the ceiling/next level floor were.
On one wall is a wide, low hearth Above it the stones are arranged in an arch.
In the other wall is an arched window, almost as high as the roof. The wall here is very thick. Enough to hold a closest or small chamber. Through the window some green grass and a small ruined building are just visible.

Northam Castle, #Northumberland. A entrance into the Great Tower.

#Castles #Norham #CastlePhotos

A stone wall, constructed from squared blocks. The surface has come away on much of the wall, leaving an irregular surface.
At the base of the wall, a small arched doorway leads down into the dark. Above and to one side, is a narrow, arched window, also dark.

Photos of #Alnwick Castle never seem to get an love.
I'll admit it's not my favourite caste but no one else seems to like it either.

A grassed courtyard/baily under an almost white (bright) sky. To the left are a group of stone towers, about five storeys high with crenalated tops. The windows on each level are narrow and arched, and arranged in pairs. The corners of the towers are angled, forming a building shape that is more octagon than square.

Around the rest of yard is a wall, about two level high, with squat, square towers at intervals. The wall has a walkway along its top, although that's not obvious in the photo.
