I seriously don't understand why meat pies are generally not a thing in the U.S.A.

We have pot pie (more of a stew-in-a-pie), but meat pies aren't very prevalent. There are kolaches, empanadas, arepas, and some meat pies, but they're all various cultural imports.

May also be a regional thing, I don't know.

I remember there was an episode of #NorthernExposure that was basically a dream sequence, and the doctor guy portrayed the role of some Soviet guy who was basically starving because it was the early Bolshevik era, and he was offered a meat pie and basically went to town on it before he caught himself and restored the illusion that he was just fine under the Bolsheviks and very much not starving (I don't know how accurate any of that was, so don't hold it against me, communist historians of fedi).

Anyway, that meat pie looked absolutely delicious, and now I'm hungry and I want one. XD

#NorthernExposure is one of my favorite TV shows. The characters and the stories were amazing, the music and the setting was amazing.

I was excited to see Rob Morrow and Janine Turner starting a YouTube show talking about the show.

I had such a crush on Maggie O’Connell. Little did I know at the time that Janine would go on to be an ultra-religious, hard-right nutjob but I have to give her credit for doing a great job with the character of Maggie O’Connell.

I've been binge watching the old TV show #NorthernExposure recently and until now I really didn't understand the appeal of it when it 1st aired in the 90's, apart from the fact that I thought that the character, #MaggieOConnell played by #JanineTurner was really HOT but I think I get it now . . .

It's a character driven show & the viewers connect & identify with the flawed, conflicted, neurotic & self-obsessed personalities of the characters, who they so so much in themselves & others.

At least that's why I'm enjoying watching it in its entirety for the 1s time now.

Re-watching #NorthernExposure and loving it, probably my 5th re-watch, surprised to see Jack Black as a Cicely high school student in episode 5 of the 5th season. That is a lot of fives right there.

I adored it back then as well, when it first aired.
I too was afraid to start rewatching it. BUT... it has aged fairly well! The feisty characters and actors are all so good, as is the music. There are a few moments here and there that seem misguided or silly now, but they are few and far between for me.
It still wonderfully exposes Maurice's ridiculous NASA/money snobbery, his homophobia, etc. It's highly respectful of Native American characters and culture. The Holling/Shelley pairing and storyline is lovely. I loved when the circus came to town and the Flying Man courted Marilyn. And Holling/Maurice's impossible quest to bury their old friend in the wilderness. The guru-like Chris Stevens radio jockey philosophically narrates a thread that ties all the many storylines together at the end of each episode. I admit that after a while i find his narration a bit overdone, but I can overlook it because it does pull the threads together.
There are moments that totally bring me to TEARS with their beauty, some very fun laughs when the characters find themselves in ridiculous situations. They make me think DAMN but that was a wonderful show.
I'm watching it slowly... 1 or 2 episodes when I'm in the mood. I'm happy to watch it all come to life again! 🥰🦌
