Another one bites the dust. https://www.accuweather.com/en/winter-weather/4-more-homes-collapse-into-the-ocean-during-north-carolinas-outer-banks-snowstorm/1859497 #OBX
From NC’s Weather Authority: 🌊 Coastal Flooding/Wind: I know all anyone wants to know about is snow, but we do have real concerns about the Coastal Flooding. I have a good following on the Outer Banks, and on top of the snow risk, there is potential for moderate to significant Coastal Flooding Saturday into Monday, especially during High Tides. Highway 12 south of Oregon Inlet could become impassable at times this weekend. Coastal Flooding is also likely in the downeast Carteret County. Minor to Moderate Soundside Flooding is also possible.
📌2-4FT is Coastal Flooding is possible in areas, especially South of Oregon Inlet on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands. There will be some ocean overwash, especially in the prone areas of Ocracoke, Hatteras, Buxton, Avon, Rodanthe, Waves, Pea Island, and Oregon Inlet. There will be times when Highway 12 could flood during high tide on Pea Island, Buxton, and the North end of Ocracoke, making it impassable at times Saturday through Monday during high tides. 2-4FT is also possible in the Downeast Carteret Communities.
📌There will be some minor 1-3FT coastal flooding along the southern Pamlico Sound, Core Sound, Neuse/Bay Rivers, and
Pamlico/Pungo Rvrs Saturday- Sunday AM.
💨: Wind Gusts will be strong on the Outer Banks thanks to being closer to the low, so 45-65MPH wind gusts are possible Saturday-Monday mainly. Loose outdoor objects (trash bins, signs, furniture, flags,) can become airborne and cause minor damage. High-profile vehicles (box trucks, RVs, trailers) can be difficult to control on bridges. There could be some scattered power outages from this. Blowing snow is also possible when snow is falling. Gusty winds of 25-40 are up in the mountains, 40-55MPH, isolated power outages are possible but not widespread.
😎The Bottom Line: For our Outer Banks folks, please prepare for moderate to significant coastal flooding (2-4 ft) from Saturday into Monday, especially south of Oregon Inlet, where ocean overwash could make Highway 12 impassable during high tides. We also expect high wind gusts of 45-65 MPH, which will create hazardous driving conditions and could cause scattered power outages along the coast, as well as very high surf and beach erosion. Soundside flooding of 1-3 ft is also possible for the Pamlico and Neuse basins, so residents should secure loose outdoor objects immediately. If you are on Hatteras or Ocracoke, plan for the possibility of being cut off by water during the high tide cycles this weekend. A Coastal Flood Warning in effect for most of the Outer Banks now.

A little moment of peace on Cape Hatteras
It's been cold on the #OBX.
With all this brr cold weather, I thought a glimpse of a summer afternoon at the #OuterBanks with a beautiful #Samoyed pup enjoying the day would be a fun break!! Here's "Watching The Waves."
It's at my website ... https://lois-bryan.pixels.com/featured/watching-the-waves-lois-bryan.html

My family are huge #NationalLampoonsChristmasVacation fans. Today, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, a brewery is doing a send-up themed menu and decorations.

From NCDOT NC12 on FB: Good morning! NC12 remains OPEN and passable through Hatteras, with sand and water on the road in several locations.
NC12 remains CLOSED on the north end of Ocracoke Island due to hazardous conditions from ocean overwash.
NCDOT crews will be out today shoring up dune lines and clearing secondary roads.
That being said, there is a chance that tidal conditions will worsen today due to long form waves from Hurricane Melissa, which will be passing well to our east today and tomorrow.
As always, please slow down, drive carefully, and give our crews room to work.

From NC’s Weather Authority on FB: The coastal low is ramping up off the Outer Banks, winds are gusting 40-55MPH along parts of the coast, especially the Outer Banks and Downeast Carteret County. Coastal flooding is beginning in the vulnerable areas of Buxton on Hatteras Island hours ahead of high tide. More flooding is possible here and over on Pea Island in the Canal Zone near Oregon Inlet. Highway 12 could be closed at times through the afternoon.

Do you live in Virginia, and are the Outer Banks, NC, beaches an issue you think about?
If so, then go vote in Virginia!
This is because a lot of Outer Banks tourists (for example, children) have Virginia Medicaid, and, in easternmost NC, many of the closest healthcare specialists work in Hampton Roads, VA.
The #OBX relies on Virginia.
(Or, if you live in an Outer Banks town, go vote in the town elections!)
From NC’s Weather Authority on FB: Overnight, due to high surf, a sixth home collapsed in 24 hours on Hatteras Island in Buxton at the end of Tower Circle Road. The beach in the Buxton area is dangerous, so please avoid it. The beach in Buxton remains closed to the public due to piles of hazardous debris. Additional home collapses are likely in Buxton and potentially Rodanthe this afternoon as we approach high tide due to additional coastal flooding expected.
