Chatham Lighthouse, 6/18/25. The Chatham Light Station used to have two lighthouse towers. The other tower was moved to Eastham, MA and is now Nauset Light. The circular gavel pit with the white anchor is the footprint of that other tower.

Todays pictures are taken at the Abbaye de Saint-Mathieu de Fine Terre in Plougonvelin (Bretagne, France). A somehow magical place. Standing there, seeing the sky through the non-existent roof of the abbey, listening the waves of the Atlantic Ocean, it's just marvellous. And of course i had a great time with my dogs there.

Pigeon Point Lighthouse, 5/18/2023. This 115-foot beauty in Pescadero, California is tied with Point Arena Lighthouse as the tallest lighthouse on the West Coast. At the time of our visit, the tower was closed for extensive repairs, but we were able to roam the grounds to view it. We easily could have spent all day there.

Point Montara Lighthouse, 5/18/2023. I was very excited to visit this lighthouse because it has served on both the East and West Coasts – the only U.S. lighthouse to have done so, to my knowledge. Its original location was at Mayo Beach on Cape Cod in Wellfleet, Massachusetts.
Per the marker at the present-day site of the lighthouse in Montara, California, it was reconstructed there in 1928 (see the fourth photo). The last photo, which I took later in August of 2023, shows the keeper’s house in the lighthouse’s original location in Wellfleet alongside a USCG archive photo of the lighthouse in 1915. Clearly the house has had some alterations over the years, but it has been beautifully maintained. The present-day site of the lighthouse in California is owned by Hostels International, and it is possible to stay overnight at the location.
