A square raft with scaffolding strapped on just zigzagged past. It was used to inspect a rail bridge from below (which passed).

The raft is large—the very opposite of hydrodynamic—so one outboard motor is insufficient to steer it. Lots of spins, stops, turns, starts, … but in the end they reached the crane that hoisted scaffolding and raft out of the canal.

The raft itself is made of purpose-made, grey plastic cubes, in a 9×9 square. The cubes are bolted together. On one side a piece of lumber is clamped on, and an marine outboard motor is clamped to that.

The engine is revving and creating a white wake. The raft is headed off to one side, rather than straight down the canal, because it is too hard to steer.

The strategy seems to be:
1. Turn and point the raft.
2. Go like hell for 5 meters.
3. Stop before crashing into the bank or a boat.
4. Repeat. And repeat. And repeat.
